The obverse text on the Morgan Dollar reads “Liberty; E Pluribus Unum; 1889.” The reverse text on the Liberty dollar reads “United States of America; In God We Trust; One Dollar; CC.” The obverse of the silver one dollar coin has a bust of a female facing the left wearing a cap and small crown, with flowers tucked in her hair and stars surrounding the border. The reverse of the Morgan Dollar has an eagle in the center with its wings spread and a wreath surrounding.

The 1889-CC Morgan Silver Dollar in Mint State is the most elusive Carson City Morgan silver dollar and far surpasses its closest rivals, the 1879-CC $1 and 1893-CC $1 coin, in rarity. Offerings of higher grade coins are apt to be one at a time instead of by the roll or bag. Relatively few coins were released for circulation in the year of mintage. The 1889-CC Morgan silver dollar is very rare in worn grades. In 1992, the coin in worn grades was the second most valuable, after the 1893-S among circulation strike Morgan dollars. Mint State 1889-CC pieces are few and far between and can be worth a hefty paycheck. Coins usually show an average strike at best. The luster varies from shallow to satiny to frosty. No proofs were produced at this Carson City branch mint.
May Be Hard to Find But it is a Must Have for Any Collection: This rare date can be found in circulated grades on occasion, running the gamut from well-worn Good to AU with many of the survivors in the EF-AU range. More collections have circulated examples than have Uncirculated coins.
A Rare Coin Indeed so Buy One if You Find It: A rare prize in Mint State, this date is often found prooflike. MS-60 to 62 are the grades typically encountered, and anything above that level is a remarkable coin indeed. Gems exist but are priced well into the stratosphere and out of the reach of most collectors. If a Mint State-63 coin can be found with not too many bagmarks and solid design details, by all means snap it up!

One of the most popular sailboats ever built! Almost 1500 41's were built from 71'-91'. This 416, commissioned in 82', benefits from numerous upgrades incorporated from 11 years of on-the-water experience by the Morgan team. One such improvement of Restless Ketch is increased sail area due to the tall-rig (60') with a high-aspect fully-battened main (2 reefs), removable inner forestay (optional staysail), battened mizzen (2 reefs), huge furling genoa, and serviceable spinnaker. Numerous sail configurations are possible to suit the conditions. Her heavy (9,000 lbs of lead), shallow (4.2'), and full keel protects her large rudder, gives stability and control in seas, wind, and at anchor, while still empowering the skipper to explore shallow waters for snorkeling reef or anchoring in protected nooks where few boats her size can go. These are a few of the reasons for her many years of popularity in the Caribbean waters, especially the Bahamas. We live aboard and cruise with her from SC, FL, Mexico, Belize and Guatemala making numerous off shore 4+ night passages and spent several years sailing the shallow, exotic and tropical waters of Belize eating fresh fish, lobster, and conch. Living the Life. You could do this with her too! Her center cockpit design incorporates a spacious aft cabin with its own entrance. It has a comfortable custom berth, multiple closets and storage areas, and a private head/shower. A custom solid Teak and Holly sole was installed professionally in Guatemala in 2017. 1 companionway, 1 large hatch, and 6 portlights with rain guards and screens provide ventilation. The forward cabin is a V-berth featuring a large double bed with large shelves and multiple drawers for storage. A custom solid teak and holly sole was installed here as well. 1 large hatch and 4 screened portlights provide ventilation. The salon's furnishings include a large, easily stowed teak table, a large L shaped settee on stbd and a large straight settee on Port . Both settees have built in shelves behind them, as well as storage lockers under the seat and behind the backrest. The table folds down beside the stbd settee and becomes a double berth. 2 large hatches, 1 companionway, and 4 portlights provide ventilation. The second head/shower is located between the V-berth and the salon and directly across from it is a large hanging closet. The galley shares space with the salon so the chef is always part of the fun. The fridge/freezer makes and keeps ice. A large double SS sink, gimbled 3 burner stove and oven, filtered water tap and adequate counter space creates an “at sea” friendly galley. The original, not functioning, engine driven freezer, located under chart table, is our drink storage locker. We easily slept 6 adults (including us) onboard for overnight charters and even passages. Plus, there is ample head room for anyone 6' tall. We have a dutch friend who is much taller than 6', and he was very comfortable. She is roomy, comfortable, and conveniently designed. The ample space in the engine room is located under the cockpit and is accessible from the walk-through hall way, which is so much easier to access than the under the stairs access or under the sole in the bilge, often found on monohulls. There is room to sit on both sides of the engine, and the heart of the boat is located there. The 12V fridge compressor and condenser, the battery charger, the batteries, the AC, the fuel switches, the wind generator controls, and the solar charge controller are all located in the engine room. In 2003, a new Yanmar 4JH3E was professionally installed. This model is one of the best yanmars and with the low hours, has many, many years of reliable service ahead. The motor mounts, starter, and alternator were replaced in 2017 before cruising. The prop shaft and coupling, cutlass bearing, intermediate support bearing, and the reinforced bellow for drippless stuffing box were new in 2017 and the prop was balanced professionally. Regular maintenance was performed throughout the life of the engine and drive train. She has been very good to us, and us to her. At the helm, the touchscreen B&G chart plotter with Navionics, transducer and water speed, and anemometer provide accurate location, speed, depth, and wind info. The steering uses aviation grade hydraulics with a very recently (2020 all new seals and new fluid) serviced ram. The auto pilot is also hydraulic and even though the course computer is old, maintains course with the best of them and uses relatively little power. In 2020, we hauled out in Rio Dulce, Guatemala and completed a proper bottom job that included the removal of all the gel coat below the water line, multiple months of active drying followed by 6 coats of West System Epoxy as the barrier coat and 3 coats of high copper oxide modified epoxy hard bottom paint. The topsides and sheer stripe were professionally painted with a high grade 2 part automotive paint. Very few vessels on the current market can compare to this type of value in an offshore capable yacht. A perfect boat for those who want to comfortably and affordably take up the cruising lifestyle. We have certainly enjoyed our 6 years living and cruising aboard her.

With its large silver content as a start and collector demand for the Carson City and San Francisco issues your coin has the potential for much higher value. Of the four mints that produced silver dollars in 1889, those struck at Carson City are very scarce today. Add in the huge popularity of these coins and the prices are well above average.

Your job is to judge condition and identify the mint that struck your coin. These varying degrees of wear determine condition and the value chart is specific listing different values for each. Also, mintmarks identifying the mint are valued separately. Both are covered in detail further down the page, discovering an accurate 1889 Morgan silver dollar value.

Extremely Fine: Slight but obvious removal of design and metal defines a worn silver dollar in "extremely fine" condition. Mint luster is now gone from the large exposed areas, the field in front of Liberty and her face. Small details in her hair are now missing, most noticeable above her forehead and behind her neck. Also the folds in the cap show wear on the highest parts, the result of use and handling. This is a nice coin, and if yours is the San Francisco or Carson City issue, solid 1889 Morgan silver dollar value. [links]
