no it should NOT be doing that, you have a stuck/blocked needle valve and it is flooding that cylinder. remove your carb and fix it. [links]
Ok im going to try that, the compression and spark was good on all 6 a few days ago. the mechanic said it was the fuel pump after i replaced it i had the same problem. after the bulb finanly gets hard it doesnt take long for it to lose pressure and go soft. if you pump the bulb really hard one of the carbs will start leaking through the throat, should it be doing this?? check compression and spark, then go back and properly clean your carbs and check for fuel tank vent obstruction, bad fuel, fuel line sucking air. more
Initial setting is: All (4) Slow speed valves = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns. here
Initial setting is: Slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.
Setting the high and low needle valves properly:
The adjustment procedure of the carburetor slow speed needle valves follows. NOTE… if the needle valves turn too freely, replace the nylon bearing retainer (the nylon item at the front of the carb that the needle valve goes through first) with the newer type RED retainer #315232. If your engine has that weird linkage that connects all four of those needle valves, the newer RED retainers will enable you to discard that linkage. The RED retainers make it impossible for the needle valves to vibrate out of adjustment. more
(High Speed) Start engine (it will run pretty rough), shift into forward gear, take up to full throttle. In segments of 1/8 turn, waiting for the engine to respond between turns, start turning in the bottom high speed needle valve. You’ll reach a point whereas the engine will either start to die out or spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the needle valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you’ll find the smoothest setting. more
Re: 1996 175 Fast Strike Carb Leak here
Sounds like you could possible have a spun hub. Draw a line across the hub and prop, start it and run for a few mins, stop, if the lines are still lined up you;re ok, if not you may have hub issues. gl
Unless what you mean by "sealed where they were leaking" is that you "rebuilt with new carb kits including all new gaskets & float valves and seats", then your probably dropping 3 or 4 cylinders due to clogged hi-speed jets, and need to rebuild with new carb kits including all new gaskets & float valves and seats.
Where were they leaking? How did you seal 'em? Is your fuel line holding pressure? Tank vent open? Fresh, uncontaminated fuel? What's your compression? more
HighTrim, I think he's saying he had the motor trimmed high (pun intended) more
