I'm waiting on some carb gaskets and pivot bolts (reverse plate) to come in before I put it out on the water.

I am posting here for the first time to see what kind of feedback I can get on my recent purchase. I just bought my first jet boat. A 1995 Sea Rayder F16 Mercury Sportjet 120hp. I am posting pictures and videos of for advice. I bought this as a project with little history of the boat. Below is what I know.

So I pull the ride plate and asses the damage. its bent down over an inch. So i look for a part online, never found anything. Call the sea ray dealer they want $460 + tax + shipping. I wasn't happy. So then I took the part up the road to a machinist to see about the possibility of it being bent back. Sure enough they were able to get it back. So I went home mounted this sucker and it's back flush the way it is supposed to be.

Not the compression. So at this point I'm not real sure. So I get on the PC and look up other possible issues. Ride plate and "cavitation." Seems to be an pretty common issue, due to them being started out of the water. Sure enough I find this. here

The boat was last used on a lake and apparently sucked up some weeds.
The boat starts and runs, but just wont really go anywhere. When the seller told me this, I'm thinking "Jet pump" I have experience with waaverunners  So I get to the rear of the boat start tearing it down to see what damage has been done. Aside from it being old, impeller and wear ring look extremely clean. So I had the wear ring checked out and the measurements were fine and the clearance was fine with the impeller. So now I'm thinking, "compression." So I found this online

1998 Sea Ray SeaRayder F16XR Designed to hold up to 5 passengers, the F16XR exhibits great handling and a lightning-quick hole-shot.A 175-hp Mercury XR2 Sportjet powered the F16 to a top end speed of 50 mph. To give you an idea of how responsive the boat is, you can only turn the wheel ¼-turn lock to lock and that’s still plenty to get you spinning donuts. This jetboat has a two-tiered swim platform to act as a staging area for skiers or wakeboarders, and the three seats across the bench featured good deep padding. A forward lounge rounds out the seating for four, with good grabrails all around. - 1998 Sea Ray F16XR/Mercury 175XR Jet here

New Battery, New Starter, New Stator Assembly etc.. I'm selling it as my neighbor asked me if I wanted to buy his boat from him and gave me a deal I could not resist, so time for someone else to enjoy this baby. 110 hp Mercury, I am 2nd owner of boat which has been babied and well taken care of. Though this boat’s no longer in production, it made quite a statement in the jetboat market when it was. The F16 had three side-by-side bolster-type seats across the main bench area, with the helm seat to starboard. Forward of the helm, a curving lounge with grabrail can seat a fourth adult. The fiberglass engine hatch (not padded) raises easily thanks to gas-assist struts to reveal the powerful 175-hp Mercury Sportjet XR2 inside. It was a simple matter to send the F16 into a 180-degree turn simply by cranking the wheel hard over and yanking back on the single-lever engine control from forward to reverse. (Remember, there’s no “transmission” to ruin on a jet boat since the engine is always in forward gear. The reverse position simply lowers a bucket over the jet nozzle to redirect the water flow forward.) This maneuver takes a bit of practice but it’s a guaranteed thriller. The F16’s top-end speed of 50 mph at 5400rpm is plenty to get you where you’re going in flat water, and with her 25-gallon fuel tank the F16 had a range of 100 miles at 31.6 mph. Sea Ray F16 Jetboat Test Result Highlights Top speed for the Sea Ray F16 Jetboat is 50.0 mph (80.5 kph), burning 17.4 gallons per hour (gph) or 65.86 liters per hour (lph). Best cruise for the Sea Ray F16 Jetboat is 31.6 mph (50.9 kph), and the boat gets 4.45 miles per gallon (mpg) or 1.89 kilometers per liter (kpl), giving the boat a cruising range of 100 miles (160.93 kilometers). Tested power is 1 x 175-hp Mercury Marine Sport Jet sterndrive. [links]

You will have the best luck in one of the "general" areas. I don't see a specific jet boat area, so perhaps the Other Brands of I/O & Inboard Engines & Outdrives would be best. here

You probably won't find too much help in the Sea Ray area. Most technical questions go unanswered. here

What's the best way to install these cables and get a watertight installation? Should I install a piece of split tubing to take up the space between the cable and fitting, then fill the split with silicone sealer? Should I seal the rear cable exit hole?
