RPM Information: 5500-6000
Your engine's RPM range is important in choosing the right propeller for a given application. For example, if you look at your tachometer at top speed and it is not within the engine's RPM range then that is generally not good. You want your RPM's to be within the proper range while at wide open throttle (WOT). Be sure to do your testing under your normal boating conditions and with a good propeller (not bent, cracked, or excessively chipped).

Hi Gerry, I don't have the service manual. The serial # on the motor is 0G254348. I was told it was a 2002 but I can't seem to verify that. It is a 4 carburetor version. I would really appreciate a copy of the manual!

I want to check if the timing is set right on my 2002 50 hp 4 stroke Merc. I suspect the timing belt may be off by a notch or the system is not set correctly. Do I need a timing light or can I check things without?

Story:
Drove out a mile or so, motor off, fished, started, moved, motor off, fished, doesn't start. Messed around looking for loose wires all over console and engine for 15 minutes, eventually started again so drove back to dock. Once at dock was able to start again once.

You can carry out the tests in Section 2B of the manual which will isolate it down to the starter. more

Took the boat out last night and disconnected all the electrical stuff exept for the starter and it ran fine now to narrow down what my problem was ! [links]
