I bought a Honda BF60 brand new because of Honda's reputation and have had it serviced at the same dealer 100km from my house since new. I had a blown fuse in the engine in its first 12 months of owning it and a split fuel line in the forth year which my mechanic said was a fault and it was replaced under warranty, these were the only times I have been stranded which is not great but I still had faith that the trusty Honda wouldn't let me down. Prior to taking my boat for its service this year I checked the oil was ok (bit dirty) and just took .
Read more off oil cap and noticed some white / brown paste inside oil cap. When I arrived at my service my boat mechanic pulled a pipe off the back of the engine and saw some white/brown paste in the tube and said this engine is stuffed and that Honda have had this problem on several engines where water or moisture is getting into the system and he would do whats required to fix the engine under warranty as he has with previous clients out of warranty. My boat is outside warranty and Honda don't want a bar of it. I would think that a Honda engine serviced for its whole life would have a design life longer than 9 years. Apart from the two issues above the engine has never missed a beat. I am looking to upgrade to a new boat and engine and after Honda have flat out refused to assist in the repair, I would not buy another Honda engine. I have mates that have Yamaha's & Suzuki's that are the same age and older and have not had any issues at all. here
The all-new 50hp Honda electronic fuel injection four-stroke outboard is a very impressive piece of machinery. In today’s climate, fuel economy has become paramount and the BF 50 has nailed the opposition by reducing fuel consumption by a further 22%. It is in a class of its own with cruising speed, 3,000-4500rpm, fuel consumption around 50% of a standard two-stroke.
The Honda BF 50 employs Honda’s 40 years of experience with four stroke engines and is the world’s largest engine manufacturer to deliver an absolute cutting edge outboard. Incredible fuel economy is just the beginning of a long list of features that include lightweight, noise reduction, BLAST (Boosted Low Speed Torque) technology, electronic fuel injection, in line 3-cylinder engine and a newly designed gear case.
When the cowling came off it was obvious that every square centimetre of space has been used to the max.
Honda Marine has introduced a new line of small portable outboard engines which bring new technology into the mini motor market.
I love a little pea-shooter outboard like the new Honda BF6 because I really enjoy exploring in a small boat. The new Honda portable is a motor I could spend the day with—it’s easy to start, smooth and quiet, and has enough power to plane a modest aluminum boat or inflatable and really get you someplace. Here’s an up-close look into the new line of small portable Honda outboards.
These three Honda models are mechanically identical in nearly every way. The BF4 is limited to 5500 RPM, while the BF5 and BF6 rev out to 6000. The BF4 and BF5 are fitted with a restrictor behind the carburetor to limit air flow and thus power output. The 15” BF4 has an MSRP of $1,875; the 15” BF5 with the remote tank fitting is $2,025, while the full-power BF6 starts at $2,150. I guess it costs $125 to remove that air restrictor plate. The Honda three-gallon remote fuel tank kit, complete with hose and EPA-compliant cap, is $166.86.
