This means the supercharger has to slip to relieve this extra pressure. In other words, the Sea-Doo supercharger slips only when its wheel is spinning at a different RPM than the gear. [links]

Speaking of risks, beware that wave jumping means a lot of extra wear for the supercharger, as the RPM changes within a very short time, which is very bad for the supercharger’s clutches!

Sea-Doos are known for their powerful engines and outstanding performance. And as we know, higher performance means more maintenance and higher running costs.

As they say, prevention is better than the cure, so if your Sea-Doo gets a lot of abuse, inspect it more frequently or consider installing a blow-off valve. more

Using a supercharger results in a higher top speed, much better acceleration, more maintenance need, and a higher risk of failures.

If you have a supercharged Sea-Doo, beyond the regular yearly maintenance you probably want to know what the required supercharger services are, the intervals and costs for a Sea-Doo.

also it will help to know what to look for to make sure it is superercharged. It is located at the back of the engine. The 255 will have an external inter cooler. [links]

I'm not a jetboater yet, but hope to be soon. I'm going to be looking at an 08 Challenger 180, and I'd like some advice on what questions to ask. I've done some reading on here so I know I need to ask if it is supercharged, and if it has stainless washers if it is. All I know is what the guy has written on the for sale sign (it's on the side of the road not far from my house). The sign says 08 Challenger 180 - only 95 hours, includes snap cover and travel cover, bimini top, Jensen stereo, and all manuals. $15,000 obo.

What else should I ask? Not sure if I'll be able to test drive it or not, but plan on asking. The price looks a little high right? I'm thinking it should be closer to $12k, but I'd like opinions on that too.

Look the trailer over, tires etc. more

If it's supercharged, 215 or 255 hp, unless you see a receipt for the rebuild, just plan on having it done. Check the pump intake, impeller etc for damage. You can start the motor for 30 seconds without the hose connected without damage. Verify the gauges etc work. Best option would be testing it on the water.

Bottom of the boat for the intake. Take a large piece of cardboard to lay on. Look for missing gelcoat, gouges, etc. The impeller can be seen from the back with the gate up. Take a good bright flashlight. Look at the edges of the impeller for damage.

My mechanic quoted me $65 for the washer replacement kit and 1.25hours of labor=$82. Will the job void the mfr warranty?

The service department said that they could not fix the meter, and that the radio is fine. I had them replace the plastic things under the seat once (holdsthe seat on). However when they came off two more times I went there and asked if I could get some spares or buy a bag of them and was told nope, they don't stock that.

I also have an '07 Challenger 180SE. Same problem with the hour meter not reading true hours. And, like you, I was told that the computer kept track of the hours. At the first service we found out that was not true.
However, I blame Sea-Doo, not the dealer. I believe he is just as frustrated as I am. Sea-Doo won't speak to me directly, I have to go thru the dealer. But the dealer keeps getting told that the fix is comming.
Anyway, besides this, I really like the boat. Have had no other problems, so lack of an hour meter isn't going to sour me on the boat.

Yep. I have a 07 Speedster 215hp. I bought it March 31st and have rode it all summer, fall and a good part of this winter. I took it in back in June for the 10 hour service even thought the meter said I was on something like 2. Well it's now February and my meter has finally reached 9 hours . The boat has performed wonderfully with the following exceptions: hour meter, radio comes on when it feels like it, and the seats pop off every now and again (I've gotten pretty good with the pliers and super glue).

I am in the process of adding a second battery for the radio, GPS/fish finder, etc. If you are interested, I will send you some pictures of the installation.
