so would there be any 12 volt hook up or just a ground on the black wire more

No 12-volt hookup. The wires simply kill one set of points if the engine ever runs-away and over-revs beyond control, triggered by powerhead vacuum. Check the wires, replace if they are frayed/broken, but leave it as is. nice safety feature.
Vacuum cut-out switch. It grounds one set of points when high crankcase vacuum is detected. more

Gale Products manufactured outboards for many different companies. These companies re-sold under their own private brands. Gale Products was part of OMC (Outboard Motor Company) along with Evinrude and Johnson. The Sovereign brand, was "Gale Products" own line of engines. We believe it was added to their Buccaneer line of outboards. We have not been able to confirm, but believe the Sovereign Outboard motor was sold through it's own dealer network. All Sovereign outboards were manufactured by Gale Products and used "Gale Products" model numbers. The Sovereign Outboard motors were on sale in 1963. Hard core parts for these outboards are getting more difficult to find as time goes on. Many older outboards used common Ignition and Carburetor venders for that period. Discount Marine Parts has Ignition and Carburetor repair kits for most all of these older outboards. If we don't have what your looking for, we have many sources to locate your part. Obviously some parts are just not available. We can sometimes find it used and often we have the part made if there is enough demand. Gale Products became part OMMC (Outboard Marine and Manufacturing Company) around 1936. Located in Galesburg, Illinois, they made products such as the "Lawn Boy" lawnmower and the "shop King" combination home workshop among other products. By 1941 OMMC had a well established dealer network for it's Evinrude and Johnson outboard motors. They saw an opportunity to expand outboard sales in to the mass market through outlets like Montgomery Wards. They decided to build and economy priced outboard at the Gale facility in Galesburg. Only through the eyes of a "manufacturer", could they rationalize that this wasn't competing with their own dealers. Gale Products manufactured outboard motors from 1941 through 1963. They sold under many name brands through many different sales outlets. Brand names like Brooklure, Buccaneer, Hiawatha, Royal, Saber, Sea Bee, Sea Flyer and Sovereign .
