The 60 degree motors are loop charged.----Have more and expensive electronic bits on them.---Gears in lower unit are a bit smaller.----You can not beat an early 1980's V-4 crossflow engine for simplicity and reliability if you rebuild one properly.
Prior to around 1986, the 90 degree crossflows were hp rated at the crank. After that, they were rated at the prop, meaning the crank hp was actually 7-10% lower vs the prop rating.. Those 115 looper engines are all prop rated and will outrun an earlier 115 crank rated engine. Those older crossflows did use more fuel when compared to the newer 60 degree loopers. Both had solid construction and ran reliably with normal owner maintenance. You should find the loopers are quieter running, too. [links]
