1996 Yamaha Exciter 220 - Twin 110 HP jet boat. Very fast. 55+ MPH. Needs some TLC. Condition is fair to average. Gelcoat is good, only a few stress cracks. Running lights work. Screws are good. Water gates work fine. Has both cleanout plugs, which are usually missing in these boats. Starboard engine did not turn over this year, wiring issue. Engine ran last year.Engine is not frozen. Engine can be turned over by hand. Port engine turns over, althoughI have not run it this year. . Cushions/seats in decent shape. Typical wear for this boat. I think there is still a guy in New Jersey who has all of the cushions for $350. I will check and post on listing. Enginehatch pistonarms are good and hold up hatch. New Plugs, starters, starter solenoid (starboard engine), fuel filter.Running lights work, Horn Works. Gas is good. New batteries November 2014, Fuel gauge does not work. Have a spare starter. Needs drain plugs for the engine compartment. Blower and bilge pump work. Good boat for someone that knows jet ski engines. Comes with original Yamaha trailer. This is a small project boat. ENGINE WIRING NEEDS TO BE FIGURED OUT AND RERUN TO ENSURE NO FUTURE PROBLEMS. THIS IS A BOAT FOR SOMEINE THAT KNOWS JET SKI ENGINES. If you know Yammies, then it should not be a problem. Boat in running condition is worth, between $4000,and $5000. I just don't have the time. [links]

Clogged oil lines are a common culprit causing engines problems so replacing them is one of the first things I would do if I bought an exciter or ls 2000. [links]

Ditto on the rough water comments from above. I once took a 14' twin engine seadoo speedster down the coast and back 30 miles each way. Even with fairly calm seas we spent a lot of time bouncing. Once was enough.

Where will you boat? A LS2000 or Exciter would not want to venture into the Pacific on anything but the smoothest days. [links]

Non mechanical parts of the boat can become difficult to replace. For example at one time no cleanout plugs were available for pre '99 models but I believe those are in production again. The windshields for LS2000 models are out of production so owners who need one are left searching for used parts. here

1999 Yamaha Exciter 270HP The Yamaha Exciter 270 makes a great runabout, bowrider, or ski boat. She’s ergonomically designed to keep you in place through hard, tight turns. The 270’s patented hull design grips the water and a special keel lets her carve sharp turns. Key FeaturesOne of the most obvious features on the Exciter 270 are the jet pumps. Instead of propellers these pumps add extra safety and also allow the 270 to explore shallower waters. There are also unique access ports in the swim platform that allow you to clean out debris from the jet pumps without having to get into the water. Two side-mirrors on the helm give the driver good visibility for keeping an eye on a skier or wakeboarder. There’s also plenty of storage space, including a cooler and ski locker. The Exciters have the Screw-in style cleanout plugs, which are much less prone to blowing out than the Snap-in style. The Purple Plug Fix that you read about here does NOT apply to Exciters.

Oil lines are getting old on these boats and you really need to pull the engines, remove the tie-wraps, and safety-wire the oil lines. The 220's did not have variable ratio oil pumps, but they can be added. I had it done and it still smokes like crazy at idle. here

Another drawback of the 220 vs the 270 is the placement of the CDI boxes. Their on the front of the engines on the 220, which means you have to pull the engine to service it (I had to pull mine to replace the starter relay). The 270's have them mounted on the rear bulkhead, behind the engines. You cannot re-locate the CDI boxes on the 220's. here
