Wide-tolerance holes. Since the rivet can expand up to its own head diameter, accurate hole sizing or alignment is not necessary. here
The Avex rivet adds important and exclusive features to those offered by ordinary blind rivets.
Vast range of thicknesses. The “dubble-bubble” expansion feature offers the capability to fasten securely in both thick and thin grip ranges with a single length rivet.
Provides a sealed stem. The rivet material flows both behind and in front of the mandrel insuring a positively retained and sealed stem. [links]

Solid rivets are the most common permanent fastener used on aircraft skins and panels. Before application, they consist simply of a smooth shaft with a round, flat head at one end. They work by being driven through a pre-drilled hole in the joint, after which the shaft, or “tail”, is compressed to flare into the opposite side of the joint, thus creating a second head and tightly fastening the joint. Solid rivets provide excellent shear strength, thus their ubiquitous use on aircraft skins, whereas bolts are more often used for joints that require high tensile strength. here

They have a design shear strength of 130 lbs. and 220 lbs. respectively. Use only Zenith rivets supplied with the kit.

These rivets are corrosion resistant, and the stem becomes locked in after being set. Also, not many different lengths are required for different diameters or thicknesses. In the Assembly Instructions, they are designated as A4 (1/8) and A5 (5/32). more
Zenith Aircraft Company has developed a unique process for setting blind rivets, which requires custom rivet heads. The process uses flush-type rivets, where the flush rivet head is formed into a domed-head by the riveting process. This provides an permanent tight finish to all set rivets. To accomplish this, the riveter heads must be ground (machined) with a concave dome (see diagram). Only 1/8" (A4) and 5/32" (A5) rivets are required to assemble the kit.
