See full version: How to Pick an Anchor Rope Size, Type, Length and More
The video below answers many of the topics addressed here although the article goes into more detail (so there is some reward for reading!).
For most boaters, the best type of rope to use when anchoring is nylon. Nylon has many advantages for anchoring including:
Along with the rope, you should also have a smaller amount of chain between the rope and the anchor. This chain will keep your rope from rubbing against the seabed and also creates the optimal angle between your rode and the seabed. The general rule of thumb is that you want approximately 1' of chain for every 1' of boat. So a 30' boat would want 30' of chain. However, often certain constraints such as weight and locker room will not allow this ideal chain amount so in these situations you should have at least 10-15' of anchor chain for the reasons mentioned above. For boaters anchoring in extreme conditions and/or for extended periods of time, you will want about 1 foot of chain for every 6 feet of rope. The reason for the different requirements is that, in theory, by having 1 foot of chain for every 6 feet of rope, an optimal angle between the rode and the seabed will be achieved. [links]

Grand Lake is becoming an even hotter tourist attraction. A new 11,000 square foot activity park is opening today just in time for the holiday weekend featuring the USS Oklahoma Memorial.
The new $12 million Anchor Activity Park is all fun and games. They have an arcade, sports facilities, and dining. But across the street sits the World War Two memorial serving as reminder of what makes all of this possible.
The memorial is a replica of a 20,000-pound anchor from the USS Oklahoma. It includes the names of 429 sailors and marines who died aboard the battleship during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
"This is amazing. I never expected anything like this. I don't feel that I deserve it," Green said.
The 11,000 square foot activity park is available for private events and team-building activities. Please reach out to Dana Able, Director of Sales, to learn more information or see the Group Activities Guide. here

FERC stands for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. FERC issued GRDA a license to operate its hydropower facilities (Pensacola and Kerr dams and the Salina Pumped Storage Project). When the license was issued, it was determined that certain property was needed to operate the hydropower facility. This area is called the Project Boundary. FERC has jurisdiction over management of lands within the Project Boundary and also over project operations such as the lake reservoir levels.
Every floating structure on the lake must be permitted by GRDA or be subject to removal. Private dock permits are based upon a calendar year and have an annual permit fee. A new owner MUST transfer the permit for an existing dock by completing a private dock application. A new owner will not receive notifications regarding their dock unless such application is completed and approved by GRDA. The private dock application can be found at www.grda.com [links]
During the boat show, and all year round, GRDA wants to help educate lake-are residents about issues such as flowage easements, GRDA project boundaries, the GRDA taking line around the lake and docks.
Basically, a flowage easement allows the property covered by the easement to be flooded with water. If your property is subject to a flowage easement, the easement will be found within your abstract. The terms of the easement will dictate how the easement affects the property, but generally you are not allowed to place a structure within the flowage easement that would impeded the flow of water over the property. The boundary between GRDA owned property and private owned property around the lake is determined by a metes and bounds survey description, not an elevation. The boundary is commonly called the GRDA Taking Line. more
