Along with their overall popularity and stylishness, they’re also more abundant than ever before in regards to available options for purchase. And that can make it a little difficult to figure out which one out there is the best for you. Hopefully, we can make that journey a bit simpler by supplying you with the following list of the 20 best pilot watches for men. Whether you’re a true-to-life flyboy or you just like flight-inspired styling, there’s a timekeeper here for you. here
Aviation and wristwatches have gone hand-in-hand for about as long as both have existed. In fact, historically speaking, a watch has often been a pilot’s most important tool — especially when military usage and flight calculations are taken into consideration. As such, it should come as no surprise that pilot-style watches are as popular and iconic today as ever. more
A unique take on a chronograph that’s especially useful for making in-flight calculations, this watch gets its name from its minute and hour “sub-dials” with hands that travel forward and jump back once they reach the end of the scale — not unlike a speedometer in the dash of a motor vehicle. It’s also available in a number of colorways, but the classic black case on a light brown leather strap might be our favorite. And the tachymeter scale around the bezel certainly helps matters.

The next thing you notice about the D2 Air is the screen, the first AMOLED display from Garmin (the type you see on high end smartphones). It’s a huge step up in performance, both higher resolution and brighter than previous generations. The customizable watch screens are much more vivid and easier to read in varying light conditions, with a huge variety of colors and sharp text. We took it out in direct sunlight and, while there was some glare at certain angles, it was completely readable. On the other hand, there's a night mode that makes the watch darker to protect night vision. There’s even an option to have the screen stay on full time. This will reduce battery life, but it’s a nice option if you plan to recharge your watch every night. Otherwise, the screen turns on when you tap it or raise your wrist. more
The D2 Air can also download music for offline playback, ideal for your next run or bike. This works with Spotify and Amazon Music (no Apple Music), and is a surprisingly helpful feature for anyone who likes to carry fewer devices. You can pair the watch to wireless headphones like the Bose SoundSport, PowerBeats 3 Wireless, and Skullcandy Method Wireless (again, no Apple here so don’t try your AirPods).
Here's a comparison of the D2 Delta PX (left) and the D2 Air (right). more
To really unlock the full list of aviation features, pair the D2 Air to your phone. This allows the watch to display current METARs and TAFs, or show the current wind as a small data block on the main watch screen. There's even an automatic flight logging feature that will detect new flights and sync that data with Garmin Pilot. [links]
