Hi, my name is Rasmus. I'm a huge fan of alternative living arrangements and the many ways people are escaping the 9 to 5 grind. Whether it's van dwelling or homesteading, if it allows for more freedom in your life then I'm all ears!

The multi-hulled design gives catamarans great stability and agility on the water, and also lend themselves to serving as more than suitable living quarters for liveaboarders. more

Trawlers are known for having large fuel tank capacities with above-average fuel economy. What this means is that when they are not comfortably berthed in a marina slip, they can be taken on long journeys and are more than up to the task of reaching remote destinations. They are thus equally liveable stationary as well as on the high seas.

Although not as spacious as longer vessels, the Catalina 355 packs an impressive assortment of amenities in its 35-foot LOA. This includes a master cabin as well as a guest cabin and a shared head. A third area can be converted to a guest bunk from its dinette function. The onboard galley features a stainless steel cooktop and oven, and a built-in refrigerator with freezer. more

A very well-appointed vessel with an L-shaped galley (with optional electric grill and 10-gallon refrigerator) above deck incorporated into a spacious salon that can comfortably seat eight, and which itself can be converted into an extra guest cabin within minutes.

Practically speaking, unless you will be exclusively mooring or living on the hook, you will likely need to rent a slip at a marina (obtaining a liveaboard slip at a marina is an entirely different matter), and toward this end, many smaller marinas that simply cannot accommodate LOAs (length overall) exceeding 50 feet. By the same token, boat lengths between 40 and 50 feet correlate to living space that is sufficient for a single person, a couple, or even a family.

If you will not be happy living on the water, a liveaboard sailboat is not worth the investment.

The benefit of these stylistic changes is that it gives you a more efficient and higher keel than other options that also have a high surface area in the water. here

Most of the Corbin 39s were originally sold as kits, so their first owners outfitted their interiors.

The Manta 42 also has exceptional storage capacity. The vessel stores 125 gallons of fuel and a whopping 100 gallons of freshwater. It also has generous gray and black water tanks to service both heads and the galley sinks. more

Below decks, the Voyage 44 features up to six separate heads and several sleeping areas. The master head, located in the bow, is one of the largest available on sailboats of this size range. The vessel features up to eight individuals sleeping areas, which is remarkable for a 44-foot boat. here

The Nautitech 44 is available in several cabin layouts. The most popular configuration features an expansive center cockpit with below-deck living spaces, along with three berthing areas and a galley. Additionally, most of these vessels feature a large master head and several smaller heads in each of the hulls. Access to each hull through the center cockpit is easy, and the headroom is excellent. here

The center cockpit stands out, as the voyage 44s exceptionally wide beam gives it plenty of room for tables, sitting areas, and other amenities. The windows let in plenty of light, in the cabin is completely weatherproof. here

If you’re, tall you may find you have to do a bit of research as many sailboats have limited headroom. [links]

Floating homes offer the most house-like on-the-water living experience. They are generally permanently moored and can cost as much as land-based houses to purchase.

Some salon designs can be quite awkward, for example a drop leaf table in the center of the salon can be hard to walk around. [links]

Shopping around, looking at liveaboard boats? While in theory it’s possible to live on just about anything that floats, the best boats to live on will have a few special features. Because there are literally endless boat makes and models (we’ve listed some at the end of this post) we’re going to cover the six types of liveaboard boats and 3 important considerations for evaluating the liveaboard potential of any boat.

With catamarans you can go much smaller (because you’ll have double the living space with two-hulls) but keep in mind many marinas will charge you for two slips. Also, don’t get too hung up on the length, some 35ft boats feel like a 40 ft boat inside, and vice versa. You really have to view a boat to know how your living space is going to feel. more
