Propellers are described by their pitch and diameter and when looking to replace your prop, those specifications should be kept in mind when determining which propeller to buy. The diameter of the prop is the imaginary circle around the blades. The pitch is how far the boat moves forward in one full rotation of the prop. Too high or too low pitch greatly impacts the performance of your boat. Your service manual should recommend a WOT (wide-open throttle) RPM range and that number will be needed to select the prop that is right for your boat. A good rule of thumb is for every inch of pitch that is roughly equal to 200RPM. If at full throttle your RPM exceeds your target number, then you should increase your pitch, if your boat falls short, then decrease the pitch.
