Ios is often considered as a young island to party and have fun at half the price you would on a more exclusive beach such as Mykonos. However, the island of Ios has some amazing shores worth discovering, safe enough for the whole family.

The beach is easy to reach since it’s not far from the capital of the island, and there are several cafés and tavernas that also offer organization, umbrellas, and sunbeds to rent for the day.

For the best photos of Voidokilia hike to the Old Navarino Castle perched on a rocky hill on the southern end of the beach. The views across the wetlands and Navarino Bay towards the seaside towns of Gialova and Pylos are stunning and absolutely worth the steep climb!

It’s one of the best sandy beaches in Greece with white sandy beach in a ravine, surrounded by beautiful cliffs on each side. You can only get there by a slightly scary 15-minute hike, but it’s totally worth it as at the bottom is one of the prettiest beaches in Crete.

Today, the bays attract tourists throughout the long summer season who come to bask in the warm Greek sunshine and dip in and out of the calm Mediterranean waters. There are actually two sides to St. Paul’s Bay Beach, the large beach, a man-made sandy section, and the small beach at the southern end which has a more natural stony landscape. [links]

A deeply curved cove so symmetrical it looks like an ‘Omega’ forms this secluded beach. The sands are pure and soft, the water gorgeous, and the beach protected from breeze by dunes. There’s plenty to see nearby: from the beach, a path leads to the lagoon of Gialova, an important wetland and haven for birds (and a Natura 2000 site). There is also a Frankish castle and the cave of King Nestor above. Voidokilia is just 12 km from Pylos, near Navarino bay.

One of the most popular beaches of Skopelos, a lovely green gem of an island in the Sporades, is Stafilos. It takes its name from the Minoan King Staphylus whose ships supposedly used this cove. The soft gray sands edge clear waters, and the beach is full service with loungers and umbrellas and cold drinks in one area, with another area natural for those who prefer a more wild experience. The beach, just 4 km from the main town, can be reached by bus and then a half kilometer walk.

This most famous Greek island has beaches of every character suited to every taste. Longest and loveliest among them is Platis Gialos, known for its soft golden sands. The beach is on the south side of the island, just under 5 km from the Chora (main town). Enjoy some watersports, or just take in Mykonos’ famous sophisticated beachside ambiance. [links]

This doesn’t mean it’s an undiscovered spot though – during the summer season daytrippers come from beach resorts all along the north coast. If you can visit out of season though? Incredible. more

Koufonisia is one of the four small islands that makes up the group known as the Little Cyclades. Located in between Naxos and Amorgos, it’s well worth a detour for lovers of unspoilt sandy beaches. There’s a decent beach as you disembark the boat, but head along the coast for a better selection. Take your pick from Finikas, Pounta, Fanos, or Pori – each have a picture-perfect combination of turquoise waters and fine sands. more

Believe it or not this is not the same place as the aforementioned Elafonisi. This tiny island is just off the south coast of the Peloponnese mainland, and is home to a spectacular double-sided beach called Simos. The water here is turquoise and the sands are soft and yellow, with a few passing yachts dropping anchor to admire the scenery. If you don’t have your own yacht you’ll have to walk from the island’s main harbour. more

Still too busy for you? The crowds thin out as you continue heading south to beaches like Mikri Vigli, Aliko, Pyrgaki, and Agiassos. here

Koukounaries is undeniably the most popular beach on this list and at any point during the summer season it’s liable to be completely packed with sunloungers and people. But if you can visit just before or after the tourist season then it’s a glorious sight to behold.
