To make the project even more interesting is the fact Dream Symphony is being built mainly of wood, that is a real technological challenge since beyond a certain length traditional planking cannot be used because of the strain and stress the yacht is undergoing. Builders made an assembly work with laminates in order to create a solid and robust hull, completing the building with fiberglass as an external protective layer. more

The never-ending duel between EOS and Maltese Falcon will thus come to an end. It’s been quite a battle, with the Falcon claiming for leadership by considering its waterline length of 256′, 20′ more than the one of EOS, while EOS has always declared itself the biggest sailing yacht thanks to the bowsprit, with a total length of 305′.

What we do know—sort of—is not only has Bezos’ ordered what will be the largest sailing yacht ever built in the Netherlands. Reports say the superyacht shipyard Oceanco is the builder. And that makes perfect sense since Oceanco has built Black Pearl, the award-winning, 350-foot-long, three-masted superyacht pictured above. And Oceanco also built the 357-foot-long Bravo Eugenia for Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. [links]

Actually, he’s buying a whole fleet of yachts. Not only is Bezos reportedly buying one of the largest sailing superyachts in the world (Superyacht A measuring 469-feet-long and owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko is still the largest). He’s also reported to be buying a “smaller” support vessel that will follow the big yacht around carrying all the “toys” (personal submarine, aircraft, various other yachts, cars etc.) that just won’t fit on the mothership. And by mothership, I mean superyacht. Not spaceship. That’s a whole other story. [links]

But I am surprised that details, about what will no doubt be the most identifiable superyacht in the world when it’s launched have stayed as secret as they have. But then again, NDAs take on a bit more power when hundreds of millions of dollars are involved. And no yacht that is 117-feet longer than a football field can stay a secret forever. [links]

That’s special because it’s actually not that easy to design and build a massive sailing yacht that actually sails well simply because superyachts that sail are affected by weight more than other superyachts. And superyachts that are built of steel and are well over 250-feet-long are…um…kinda heavy. more

And in addition to boasting what appears to be fantastic sailing performance, and of course, spectacular and luxurious accommodations, SEA EAGLE may also be the most beautiful launched this year too. In fact, I bet she’s going to clean up when Boat International’s World Superyacht Awards are announced later this year. [links]
