The fires kept coming in October 2018 when a major fire broke out on board the 42 metre Benetti superyacht Lalibela. Firefighters were called to the yacht, which was moored in Vallauris harbour near Cannes, and worked for over 12 hours to extinguish the fire. The blaze was reported to have destroyed the top deck and cabins inside. Luckily, the two people onboard at the time the fire broke out were safely evacuated. here
Just days after the fire onboard Kanga, another ferocious fire tore through the Lürssen's Bremen-Aumund facility, seriously damaging a new build superyacht measuring over 100 metres. Thanks to the efforts of more than 150 firefights and the yard's immediate emergency procedure, all employees working on board were safely evacuated. here
Heavy rain, high winds and waves over 10 metres tall battered the Northern Italian coastline in October and left hundreds of yachts submerged or completely destroyed in their wake. Carlo Riva Marina in Rapallo, which can host yachts up to 50 metres, was badly affected by the storm and saw half of the near-400 yachts in the marina devastated in the storm. [links]
As well as carrying all those underwater gizmos, REV will also house six laboratories, a 36-seat lecture auditorium, a media editing suite, a conference centre and an exhibition room, not to mention enough deck space for carrying up to 12 shipping containers. here
The idea behind REV is as simple as it is ambitious: “To make the ocean healthy again.”
“REV will be a platform for gathering knowledge,” explains Inge Røkke. “I would like to welcome researchers, environmental groups, and other institutions on board, to acquire new skills to evolve innovative solutions to address challenges and opportunities connected to the seas.” [links]
