I use to own a HJ60 and had the similar problems releating to stalling and a leaking lift pump. don't get a toyota one thout mate!! we paid about $80 for a full metal one from a diesel mob in eagle farm somewhere (i think it was on kingsford smith drive)!! way better than the standard plastic one and never had a problem with it after install

Boof, I had a similar thing to that also (thanks to a truck that sat doing nothing for nearly 10 years!!) anyways, It would kick over and drive ok for ages then when it got hot I wouldn't be able to kick it over if i stopped!! also if I didn't have enough Revs it would die (very interesting comming into a slow corner and have the truck die on you!!) turned out to be a fuse leading to the altinator. wasn't blown just very dirty and coroded. replaced and didn't have a prob (that prob ) ever since!!

Im pretty sure its air getting into the fuel, i was just chasing if any of you guys have had or heard of a similar problem like this. [links]

When i start my 2h it only runs for no longer then 20 seconds, it runs really rough like its not quite getting enough diesel through it.

When i filled the fuel filter up with clean diesel and screwed it in, the car idled fine for a few minutes, you could give it a few revs and would still be fine, but then the revs would just decrease untill it eventually died. [links]

Ive played around with the primer, ive changed primers (both 2nd hand though, one is the bosch other is stock primer) and bled the air out of the fuel countless times, changed fuel filter, pressurised the fuel tank. more

I can bleed all the air out of the fuel filter untill i get a solid stream coming out of the breather but the primer still doesnt quite go hard. is it meant to? Once the car has started and then stalled ill crack the fuel breather and air comes out again just like before i bled the line. I pump the primer for ages and it doesnt seem to get any harder.

This is a second hand engine that i have put in that i had got of a friend, it had been sitting for a while. I checked my water trap under the chassis, it was pretty dirty but gave it a good clean out and that didnt seem to be my problem either. Ive cracked the injectors as well. more

OEM specification for "fuel banjo washers" for my BJ40 is "rubber-coated-steel" and I find they are the only ones that work well for me. (I find copper needs too much torque . even when reannealed.)

Because of these "washer problems" I would highly recommend fitting a proper bleeder. (You could even drill and tap the head of a banjo bolt for a small hex-head screw yourself and use a small copper washer under the head of that!)

Did you open the correct banjo? (Perhaps you opened the inlet instead of the outlet if diesel came out yet the filter didn't fill will fuel?) here

On trying to start her up, after this fortnight of standing, it didn't want to know. Being a little naive I kept on turning her over waiting for some miraculous start, but it never came, which didn't do my batteries any favours. more

With the batteries dead I put them on charge and did some digging on here and concluded that the primer pump was to blame, leaking air into the system whilst stationary for 2 weeks, allowing the diesel to run back to the tank. [links]

Realising something was amiss and my basic understanding of diesels requiring fuel and heat for start up prompted me to check a few things. After a brief read of the the Haynes manual and threads on this forum I began with checking the primer pump, which I had notice was leaking diesel a few weeks back and upon tightening in it's stowed position stopped leaking. Anyway I popped it out and repeatedly pumped, meeting very little resistence. After a while and a few squelches the thing started spewing fuel around the side of the piston in a way that resembled a geyser. I then bled the fuel filter nipple and the injectors. Tried start her again and failed. [links]

I recently got my HJ60 (UK spec and my first ever diesel) and as the original front leaf springs were seriously sagging I decided to change them. What should have been a relatively easy job was made a lot harder by the incorrect parts being sent to me. Basically it took me 2 weeks to get it back together. here
