If you connected the battery to the motor reverse polarity, dont know if it sustained damage to the electronics like powerpacks, rectifiers, regulators, computers.

If nothing was on, hopefully you didn't damage the engine. The tilt motor will not care which way you wire the battery up, power is reversed when you lower the motor. [links]

The boat motor has a much wider turning radius than the sail+rudder. Your raft isn't all that big (mine's bigger than yours at 25 sections) so it's not your size affecting it. [links]

Is it not turning at all over long distances or not turning at all when you're going back and forth over short distances (a few meters at a time)? If it's the former, it's an actual issue i'm not familiar with, and if it's the latter, your issue is that you're using the boat motor for short distance maneuvers. here

When transitioning from reverse to forward, steering the engine has more authority than the rudder because there isn’t much water flowing over the rudder yet, but the vectored thrust from the prop does a great job.
