The cost of storing a modest, trailer able boat in a fenced field throughout the winter can range from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars for indoor boat storage, and tens of thousands for extremely big boats maintained in a wet dock. However, keep one more thing in mind. Most of the time, if you store your boat at an indoor dry stack facility, it will be there all year. So, if you pay for year-round storage, you won't have to pay for a wet slip during the summer, and your boat will be sheltered from the weather all year. In contrast, if you keep your boat in a wet slip permanently, you won't have to bother about locating and paying for winter storage separately. However, keep in mind that there will still be yearly haul-out costs for maintenance. here

When it comes to outdoor boat storage, the benefits include low cost and simple accessibility, especially if the boat is on its own trailer. Security is a potential drawback, thus the facility should be walled, locked, and equipped with a security system or video surveillance. As a result, commercial storage facilities are frequently a popular option in urban settings. Also, keep in mind that outside boat storage necessitates shrink-wrapping, parking under a boat storage canopy, or otherwise securely covering the boat during the winter to avoid water ingress and deterioration.

Some individuals keep their boats in water all year. This is typically regarded an acceptable technique in temperate locations with mild winters, or if you properly winterize your boat in its slip and then install an agitator (ice eater) to keep the water surrounding the boat from freezing during the cold months of the year. more

Storing a boat in the water year-round may be more convenient for slip holders than pulling the boat for dry storage during the winter, but it does come with some concerns. If, for example, your marina loses power and the agitator ceases to function, the hull may become frozen in place, resulting in ice damage. As a result, most boat owners prefer dry boat storage during the off-season, particularly in parts of the country with harsh winters. Slip holders who have a lift may also choose to keep their boat on the lift over the winter. Also, keep in mind that storing your boat in a marina usually comes with some advantages. Many have a swimming pool or clubhouse, Wi-Fi, fish-cleaning stations, boat storage boxes mounted on the pier (often referred to as "dock boxes"), and other amenities that can make your boating trips even more comfortable and enjoyable.

Outdoor boat storage that is dry is unquestionably more popular. It's relatively safe and protective for the boat, and it's less expensive than most alternatives. You're probably wondering right now, "Where can I find outdoor boat storage near me?" Or, if cost is an issue, perhaps you're wondering, "Where can I find cheap boat storage near me?" We can't provide you precise answers since we don't know where you reside. We do, however, have some good news for you: everywhere you see boats, you can typically find cheap outdoor boat storage. Almost all marinas and yacht yards, as well as commercial storage facilities, provide it.

There are also plenty of fenced lots in popular boating areas that are used for boat storage in the off-season and boat trailer storage during the summer months. more

How much does boat storage cost? You can expect to pay about $200 to $300 per month to store a boat. Boat storage prices vary by season, type, and location. In the summer, storing a boat can simply mean renting a space on the marina, while storing a boat in the winter may require indoor dry storage. In colder climates, extra winterization services prior to storage can help prevent damage and keep your boat in good condition until the next season. Below you will find indoor dry storage rates by region, from the California Coast to the Northeast Coast. [links]

You can expect to pay about $200 to $300 per month to store a boat. But the cost of dry boat storage — meaning boats are stored in dry conditions such as inside a garage-like facility — depends on the size of the boat. Owners are usually charged monthly, and the fees vary greatly by location.

I got into boating with a trailerable boat (see our Boat Towing Guide if this is of interest to you), but over the years I moved up to boats too large for trailering, which meant winter boat storage became a necessity. Although I enjoy today's big boats, I sometimes miss the advantages of trailerable boats. There are a number of benefits to having your boat stored outside your back door. You can make snap decisions to head off on impromptu boating adventures at the drop of a hat, take advantage of those warm winter days to work on small projects, and you can even save money by keeping your boat on a trailer. But with larger boats, that simply isn't an option. more

Another consideration is local zoning. The city or town in which you live may not allow big boats to be stored on residential lots. The advantages of having your boat at home certainly aren't worth an expensive court fight. But if the law allows and you’re dead-set on keeping your boat at home, check out Winter Storage: Bringing the Boat Home, which explores some ways to make it happen. [links]

But there are offsetting considerations. For one, your boat is protected from the weather without the work and/or expense of erecting a cover. Boats stored inside generally need less cleanup in the spring to restore that yacht-like appearance. Another advantage of locked buildings is that they offer good protection against vandals.

Most boats will need a vehicle storage space that is at least 20' in length. A boat should also fit in a covered or enclosed storage space that is at least 14' tall. The 14' should be able to accommodate a boat with a wakeboard tower, speakers and other accessories. Consider the size of the trailer and motor when deciding on a boat storage space that best fits your needs. here

Enclosed vehicle storage spaces are indoors. Rent a personal storage space for your vehicle and avoid harmful weather like from the sun, rain, snow, wind, dirt and dust. Climate controlled and/or heated areas are available. Enclosed storage offers the most protection. These indoor vehicle storage areas are only accessible by the vehicle owners and facility staff.

Many U-Haul facilities offer small vehicle storage spaces for your motorized vehicle. Depending on where you live, these motorcycles and motorized vehicles can't be used year-round, and need to be stored somewhere between seasons. here
