Taking one of the ropes, the two tails were then laid side by side, and seized together again after another 4in (10cm). The tails then separated to pass around the wooden tread, fitting into notches that were cut 3/4in (18mm) from the end. here
The sides of our new ladder are made from three-strand rope while the treads are wooden, supported by small wooden isosceles triangles under each end.
