Welcome to Cala di Volpe Sardinia! Breathtaking views and pristine beaches best describe this popular tourist spot in the heart of the Costa Smeralda. Yes, this near-perfect travel destination is overflowing with celebrities and attractions, and here you’ll find some of the most highly regarded Costa Smeralda hotels. Cala di Volpe (meaning the ‘bay of the fox’) is a small community located in Arzachena in the province of Olbia-Tempio, in north-east Sardinia, Italy. The village is located in the historical region known as Gallura on the Emerald Coast, between the beaches of Li Itriceddi and Capriccioli. Its strategic position offers easy access to other famous beaches as well, such as Spiaggia del Principe, Grande and Piccolo Pevero, Liscia Ruja, and Romazzino. The small village is best known for the luxury hotel with the same name – Hotel Cala di Volpe – part of “The Luxury Collection” operated by the renowned Starwood hotel chain. Hotel Cala di Volpe has a legendary tale to tell since it was chosen as one of the film locations in “The Spy Who Loved Me” at the end of the seventies. In that classic James Bond movie, James Bond and Anya Amasova walk through the hotel’s lobby towards the reception and check in under the false name Sterling. In case you’re wondering, just as countless James Bond fans still do after all these years, they booked Suite A5.

Slip the words “Hotel Romazzino” into conversation with an Italian and you’ll be met with a knowing smile. This deftly easy-going but super luxurious beachside hotel is famous for its Sardinian hospitality and subtle celebrity connections. The Romazzino’s personalised approach is a byword for locally-attuned luxury to satisfy even the pickiest of guests. There’s also interiors inspiration aplenty. Stop by for a glass of Sardinian wine at the in-house Juniper bar (so-called for its enviable floor featuring slices of local juniper trees) and note the hand-woven textiles and painterly murals that populate the hotels nooks and hallways. Visit during the annual independent cinema festival (July) for outdoor film screenings on a neighbouring family-owned private island. Do: spoil yourself with a pasta course during each meal. Don’t: forget to bring a seriously chic cover-up, Italian summer holidays are not a time out from style, even on the hotel’s immaculate beach. Book in for: relaxation, family time, a romantic short break or weekend away with a best friend. more

Pack a pair of trainers to tackle the ten-minute walk down a winding rural track to the Prince’s Beach. It’s worth it. A wild unspoilt bay set away from the glitz of Porto Cervo where local couples bake in the heat of the afternoon sun flanked by the privacy of a rambling pine forest awaits. [links]

From the hotel to be seen in to the secret beach to discover, here is Vogue’s checklist for a weekend in Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. Sardinia is the rugged Mediterranean island that became a white-hot jet set destination in the Sixties thanks to the Prince Aga Khan who fell in love with an unspoiled 20km stretch of northern shoreline that’s lapped by eye-popping aquamarine waters while sailing by on his yacht. His dream of creating a chic destination that didn’t interfere with the island’s bewitching natural beauty became a reality and the fabled Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) was born. This is where European barefoot luxury began and continues to reign today, with everyone from George and Amal Clooney, Rihanna, Elton John and Barack Obama dropping by (and dropping anchor) during the long summer season to sample the world-renowned dining scene and take a dip in those cool green waters. more

The pastel-hued Cala Di Volpe hotel (originally built as the Aga Khan’s private home, and later plucked by a location scout for the 1977 James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me) has a reputation as famous as its A-list guests. If you’ve holidayed at Tuscany’s Il Pellicano, or Côte d’Azur’s La Colombe d'Or you know the drill… Cala Di Volpe delivers its own brand of mischief and spontaneity, however. By day, lunch parties decamp from yachts to compete for the best table at the hotel’s waterside barbeque (their smooth arrival aided by the hotel’s private mini-port). Think: dinner plate sized sunglasses and larger than average jewellery. Well, with a mini Prada boutique in the hotel lobby, it’s not surprising that a de facto high drama dress code often prevails. This is Italianate glamour at its off-duty best with all the people-watching potential one could dream of. As night falls it’s all about the hotel’s interior restaurant where maître d', Mario, presides over generous servings of Sardinian fish stew with fregola for guests who like their supper to last well into the small hours. His mantra “like you do at home” rings true. Tip: If you happen to miss the tender back to the yacht, request room 139 for the hotel manager’s favourite view of the bay.

How do you describe your look?
In New York, I’m more conservative. In the South of France, I’m sort of free. I have good-looking legs, so I like the dresses to be short, and I think I’m elegant, sophisticated, and sometimes, a bit over the top—but you know, that’s Ivana.

What do you mean by “over the top”?
Well you know my hairdo, and sometimes the jewelry and the dresses are very elegant. Murad and Elie Saab give you the idea of how I like to dress. I don’t like the huge ball gowns with the huge trains. I like the fitted dresses that show off your figure and are not necessarily translucent like Beyoncé’s.

You and Donald seem to have a nice friendship today.
We do! He is my best supporter, and Donald is doing great in his campaign. I think he would be a great president. I told him to use the slogan, “You think it, I say it.” He will negotiate deals. He is one of the most dynamic people in the world. He looks presidential, and he talks presidential, and he would make the changes he promises. I wish him all the best.
