TLDR: Although many argue that JB weld can hold a spark plug in, as I expected, JB weld can not withstand the compression pressures of an outboard motor.

Also question is, how do you get something out of a spark plug hole? [links]
One may also ask, are helicoils permanent? Helicoils are considered a permanent repair. If installed correctly they do not back out or sustain damage easily. Of course if you install a Helicoil and then thread in a cross threaded bolt you will damage the coil, (as you would by threading a cross threaded bolt into just about any material). [links]
The kit also comes with a Helicoil tap and installation tool. It is made from high-quality material that makes it a reliable tool for your repair needs. Like the other Helicoil, it comes in carded packing and is usually used for repairing tapped holes. here
Afterward, clean the installation tool after removing it from the hole. Last but not least, return the spark plug to its original place. here
This product is a 14-millimeter cylinder head re-threaded kit, and you can use it to repair a spark plug. With this kit, you won’t need anything else, and any user can do it. The only con is that it’s only for the users with spark plugs with aluminum heads. here
The manufacturer of this product designed it to help repair two-valve modular cylinder heads from ford engines. It’s of suitable quality materials that boast a fool-proof repair system. Thus, it allows for cost-effect and quick repairs for your spark plug thread. [links]
As I mentioned earlier, the best way to rethread a spark plug hole is to bring it to a professional and have it repaired. However, if your spark plug needs a proper repair (if it was a stripped one with crossed and pulled-out threads), it can cost a lot.
Do Helicoils work in aluminum? Yes, you can install Helicoils in an aluminum engine block as long as you follow the instructions and perform the installation the correct way. Since the Helicoil is metal and the engine block is aluminum, you will have to use anti-seize to ensure no seizing will occur when you are installing the new thread.
The valves open and close when the crankshaft rotates. Each valve is opened and closed at the right time. You will have to rotate the drive chain until the valves are closed. This part of the process can be challenging but trust me, you don’t want metal shavings to fall in your cylinder.
You will select the correct size insert by screwing it on the spark plugs that you use. Once you find the correct size, apply Loctite to the insert. The reason why you need to apply Loctite on the new insert is that you want it to stay in place when you remove the spark plug. [links]
To gain access to the spark plugs, you will have to remove the valve cover, spark plug wiring, any additional wiring that might be in your way, and finally the spark plugs.
The Helicoil spark plug repair kit (see the price on amazon.com) will come with a sleeve that you will have to put inside the spark plug hole. You will have to drill the spark plug hole big enough so that the sleeve from the repair kit can fit in. more
I usually start by vacuuming the spark plug hole because there is metal scrape all over the hole because of the broken threads. Then, I grab a flashlight and do a quick assessment and I make sure that the valves are closed and no metal scraping will fall into the cylinder and cause a ton of other problems.
The kit comes in a 14mm reamer with 12 points. It has an overall length of 2.5 inches, and you can use it with a 3/8-inch wrench or drive ratchet. [links]
This Helicoil has a size of 5/16-18 inches. It’s a straightforward repair kit to use and is from China. here
In general, it would be best to proceed with caution and make sure you understand spark plugs and how to go around them to avoid further problems from arising.
As I mentioned earlier, you can insert a Helicoil to fix spark plug holes or use a thread chaser. However, if the damage is a lot deeper, you may have to remove the cylinder head.
Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Lube the thread to prevent aluminum shards and to capture all particles while re-tapping the threads. Lubricating is required because aluminum shards can cause damage if they get inside the engine. more
