Re: Automotive vs. Marine Fuel line?
replaced all mine EXCEPT the ultra small lines going from the primer solinoid to the carbs and such. I cant find that stuff anywhere. Well i have not checked with my local evinrude parts supplier( dont like to do business there since he tried to sell me some old type fuel line which was not good for ethanol). I guess I have to go see him. Any other thoughts. That stuff is like 1/8 i.d. mabye smaller? [links]

Something you may expect to be a straight forward and even boring is an area where a small mistake has a large impact. Performance and reliability is compromised when a poor selection is made. Everyone’s favourite topics will get a mention. Fuel choice, operating pressure, temperature, flexibility, durability and cost.
Did you ever think about using the cheaper low pressure hose for return line on your EFI vehicle? Carburettor or return hose is very similar in construction to EFI hose just designed for lower pressure. Typically the operating pressure is <50psi. Being rated to less pressure make cost of production less that the higher pressures hoses.
Size of the fuel hose is the same as EFI and compatibility with the different fuel type is also hose specific. This hose is manufactured to comply with SAE30R7
Static discharge should not be overlooked. Fuel hose needs to be able to discharge static build up that occurs due to the fuel flowing within the hose. As fuel flows at high velocity the friction caused by the fluid will generate static electricity. All high quality fuel hose will have a conductive chemical additive to allow the static electricity to discharge safety through the hose to the vehicle body. [links]
For gasoline, regular old gasoline resistant Aviation Form-a-gasket Number 3 is the best option. Another product also offered by Permatex is the High Temperature Thread Sealant. Tech data on this sealant says it has medium solvent resistance and is recommended for fuel sender type applications.
Similarly, how do you seal NPT fuel fittings? Teflon tape/paste is a requirement for a NPT fitting because it acts as a lubricant as well as helps seal the joint. It should be used the first time the joint is assembled, or else the brass can gall. It's not needed or wanted on an inverted flare or AN-type fitting/nut.
