The short film, Tales of the Code: Wedlocked, had three original actors from the film (Vanessa Branch, Lauren Maher, and David Bailie) reprising their roles from the films, respectively. In the video games, some characters are voiced by the original actors from the film (ex. Kevin McNally as Joshamee Gibbs). However, Jack Sparrow and Barbossa have never been voiced by Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, respectively, save for Depp voicing Jack in The Legend of Jack Sparrow. Here is the complete cast:
The Pirates franchise began from the Disneyland ride, which created a remarkable world for pirates to live in, relying on the talents of some of the best creative minds in Walt Disney Imagineering. Prior to the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, some of the film's actors reprised their characters in a revamped version of the ride; the same would happen for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. THR goes on to say that Bruckheimer, who has worked with Depp on multiple project at Disney and other studios, has been one of Depp’s “biggest champions.” However, despite his efforts to get Depp to return to the franchise, Disney said no and his relationship with the actor is said have “frayed” in recent months. Listen I may be in the minority, but I think it was Depp’s time to get away from this franchise. Sparrow was a character that was used properly in the first movie, a supporting character that played off the main characters well, but was the driving force to an overall story, and ultimately earned Depp an Academy Award nomination. Sadly, Disney made the pivot to make Sparrow the main character and while I think it worked for Pirates 2 and 3, Sparrow become a slapstick character that tired really quickly, and I think it showed with the quality of Pirates 4 and 5, which I personally enjoyed.
According to the trade, Disney made the decision to distance themselves from Depp before his ‘wife beater’ libel trial in the UK, despite never formally severing ties. Disney ‘balked’ at executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s idea of bringing back Depp for a cameo in the female-centric spin-off of the franchise, rumored to be led by Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad).
In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, they have learned that Disney has ultimately blocked Johnny Depp from making a returning cameo appearance to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. [links]
Like I said, I know I may be in the minority, as there have already been multiple petitions signed by more than a million fans online, that have demanded Depp be reinstated in his role as Sparrow. I don’t need to go into all the details on the Depp Heard stuff here, I’m sure you can find that info elsewhere. [links]
Like most pirates, Jack Sparrow wears four rings, while also wearing a shredded black wristband on his right wrist. Jack has two marks on his right forearm: the distinctive "P" brand marked on pirates by members of the East India Trading Company (this one in particular administered by Cutler Beckett) and a tattoo of a sparrow flying across the evening sunset. This is a well-known identifying mark, signifying that the bearer has sailed all of the Seven Seas. Jack's back was also extensively tattooed with a 15th-century poem called the 'Desiderata'.
Jack Sparrow's distinctive look is accentuated by long, dark brown hair and a short goatee beard. Additionally, Jack sometimes wears a faded black tricorn hat. By Jack's later life, his hair is adorned with all manner of beads and trinkets gathered from his travels and adventures all over the world, each one having a story that reminded him of a previous adventure. Jack wears long sea boots and long, hard-wearing linen trousers. A knotted striped-red sash is tied around his waist, where he stows his pistol when not in use. On Jack's back is a long brown coat that he removes when the need arises to either swim or if the air gets too hot. A faded blue waistcoat with a shorter lightly-colored back area and a torn white undershirt make up the rest of the ensemble. A red bandanna is always wrapped around his head, complemented by his piece of eight (a small, ancient Siamese coin woven into Moroccan beads) draped over his forehead. After his piece of eight was destroyed in the ritual to release Calypso, Jack replaced it with new trinkets. Jack wears two belts, one to which he attached some odd additions. Beneath the belt, Jack wears a sash.
