Interference from electrical components such as windscreen wipers, fan heater and direction indicators can be identified immediately. The noise will disappear when the component is switched off.

If an electric motor continues to cause interference despite the fitting of suppressors, use power supply chokes, available from car-accessory stores, in the connecting wires.

Before looking for the source, make sure that the set itself is properly earthed to the car's metal bodywork.

That means that the Audi charger has been rigorously testing against standards from both regulators and the vehicle manufacturer themselves. The cheap adapters have an ambiguous level of testing and are self certified by the manufacturer (with no regulator or manufacturer oversight). here

So what?
For automobiles in which USB charging ports are integrated by the manufacturer, they are tested against automotive standards. These standards ensure the devices are fit for the environment and will produce a high-quality customer experience. For example, it is inconceivable that plugging a phone or tablet into the manufacturer’s USB port would cause interface on AM, FM, or two-way radios. Plugging in a device and getting a bunch of static on the FM radio or completely losing two-way radio communication is intolerable. here

When shopping for a USB charging adapter you encounter a shockingly wide array of prices for such devices. Many options are available at discount stores or online for as little as $2.00.

If you really need the radio, and to power a device in the aircraft during flight, you should make sure you can do both with a lot of confidence and use a manufacturer-provided solution (in a new aircraft or service part), or purchase a certified charger that you know is going to work and deliver a consistent experience if it is ever replaced.

Well, if you’re like most you go buy an adapter that lets you plug in one or two USB devices through the auxiliary power outlet. These outlets, which you might call a cigarette lighter socket, were originally designed to power electrically-heated cigarette lighters but have since become interfaces where we all commonly plug in USB charging adapters. more

I don't use the radio much, but I have to say my radio reception (FM) isn't very good - particularly Radio 4 which is the only one I use with any regularity. Not associated it with the cigarette lighter sockets - but I do use one of them to keep the phone charged so that may be the issue. I'll certainly investigate next time I'm in the car. more

Are you using the same device at all times when you get the interference or does other devices and USB chargers cause interference?

If anyone can shed any light on it I'd appreciate it.

I contacted the makers, Brodit and they claim they haven't heard of any other reports of interference. I can only assume there is a fault in the Audi wiring loom. I am about to send the plug charger back and replace it with a USB based one like I had before. Will report back any findings if anyone is interested. [links]

Perfect DAB signal when phone is not plugged in to 3rd party usb charger. As soon as i plug it in. Signal vanishes here

DAB is a fairly weak signal at the best of times and the quarter window antenna (or where it is in cars other than Avant) is not in the best place for great reception. I doubt Brodit will admit to knowing about this to an end user. DAB still has a fairly small adoption in the UK car market so I would guess Brodit know about this but will keep it dark until existing stock of current models have sold out of the warehouses or DAB users increase and it becomes a significant enough problem for them to address properly. Other makers will be doing the same. All of their products will have been tested for EMI radiation and RF interference that can be injurious to health and equipment like pacemakers and the like but not for soaking up low power DAB signals.

I've found that the OEM chargers cause allot less "noise" than the jippo's. more

You have to live with it. Mine causes not only FM but also ALL radio interference.
