other than that, the only thing to consider is the type of wheels it has. i looked at lots of home made trailers with mobile home axles, and didnt want to use the type of wheel with the clamps on the rim, casue you can only use tires made for those wheels.

mine didnt actually start life as a mobile home like we are for the most part discussing. it was a 5th wheel camper type thing. the guy i got it from had started to make a car hauler and cut off the 5th wheel hitch and added an almost 6 foot long tongue with a 2 5/16 " ball.

the mobile home frames are pretty narrow.my trailer started life as a mobile home smile.gif ive only got about 6 feet between the tires,so the tires are going to have to be tucked vompletely under the dck to accomodate the 90 or so inches it needs to be for my jeep with a WT front/14 bolt rear to fit on it.needless to say,its goig to be quite a bit higher han your typical car hauler.

We have seen a few ancient single-wide homes in older parks that keep a rusty tow bar attached at the front—sometimes artfully reconfigured as a triangular planter box. And there were once local laws in some juridictions that mandated that the running gear remain in place, but we know of no areas that have that requirement today. In fact, HUD now requires that the tow bar and running gear be removed in order for the home to qualify to FHA mortgage insurance.

Mobile homes leave the factory with a tow bar welded at the front of the undercarriage (steel I-beam frame) and a set of axles and tires mounted under it. Both the tow bar and axles/tires (called the running gear) are typically removed once the home is installed on its foundation at the site. Sometimes the axles and tow bar are stored under the home, but usually thery are taken away.

The tow bar and set of axles/tires can be reinstalled to move a mobile home to a new location, but less than 1 in 10 homes are ever moved from their original site. A relocated home is called a “second set” home in the industry. To learn about the issues related to a second set home, see our blog post What is a "second set" mobile/manufactured home?
