The population of the village is only about 30 and there are no shops but a great sense of community. Next door to us was a disused church and an old château whose only occupants were an eccentric old lady and her dogs.
For the best view of the old city center I climbed the 142 steps of the tower of The Castillet. A very windy day and not for the faint-hearted, but the reward was a panoramic view of the city. Perpignan doesn’t have big high-rise office towers so the tower lookout gives an uninterrupted 360-degree view. [links]

In the autumn the village has a local fête where everyone turns up for a spit roast, drinks, and a good natter.
Because of Aude’s great climate and popularity, real estate prices can be a little higher, but still dramatically less than the nearby coastal cities of Cannes or Nice or the beautiful but expensive Provence. more
Renting a berth permanently in Monaco is extremely challenging. Though the marina is well maintained and is efficiently run and though it has been extended, the harbour is still relatively small for a population of 35,000 residents. For rentals, priority is given to the 8,000 Monaco nationals and after them, Monaco residents. There are long waiting lists and your application to rent will not even be considered if you are not Monegasque or a resident. You will never find berths for sale in Monaco on this website as they are all state owned. Unlike France, when Monaco developed its marinas, the Principality did not require finance for the works and therefore berths are nowadays the property of His Serene Highness the Prince of Monaco. Monaco’s main harbour, Port Hercules, is famous for its superb yachts, its glamorous lifestyle around the year and of course, the Grand Prix that takes place every year in May. Having your yacht in the marina then is an amazing experience as most of the track is around the marina and you will be sure not to miss a thing . from your flybridge or from your top deck.
Monaco has been a harbour for as long as mankind can remember, being occupied by the Greeks and the Romans as well as less known civilisations such as the Ligures and the Monoïkos. Monaco is a natural harbour with the "Rock" ("Rocher" or "Rocca") acting as a huge breakwater against Westerly winds (Mistral & Ponente) and nearby Cap Martin offering a little protection from the East (Levante & Sirocco). The harbour was also used as a naval outpost throughout history since the conspicuous mountain behind ("Tête de Chien" or "Testa di Can") offers a spectacular view of the coast from the Bay of Cannes to Sanremo. We have an apartment in the city, it took us a while to find the right one for us. The heart of the apartment is a big living room and we have two balconies where we love to eat out. We didn’t need to do much renovation – and that’s typical of apartments in Cannes.
If you don’t need to be right in the center a neighborhood 20 minutes away might be something to consider and really opens up your options.
Don’t only consider the middle of Cannes when it comes to your dream south of France home. Le Cannet is right behind Cannes and some of the best views towards the Mediterranean Sea and Cannes are actually from properties in the Le Cannet postcode area.
Prior to this year, the big Cannes-based conferences such as the Cannes Film Festival and MIPIM always had far more people who wanted yachts in the port than there were spots available. But that has changed this year – in fact over 40 yachts (out of 100) were canceled for MIPIM 2009 due to the difficult economic times. And there are still slots available for the Cannes Film Festival in May. So if you or your company have always wanted to participate in a key Cannes event, 2009 may be the best year to make that decision.

Short of a full-blown static charter, there are several other alternatives for chartering a yacht during an event in Cannes. The first is to simply charter a yacht in the port and use it for accommodation. Often when hotels are full and charging double their normal price, you can find a nice sailboat or motor yacht to sleep 4 -8 people on, right next to the Palais. This is convenient, fun and very different from your normal hotel stay, and you also have use of the yacht during the day if you want to see the bay or entertain clients.
