Fiberglass resins will not stick to woods that have been treated. They only stick to untreated, clean, dry wood. Redwood is not only usually treated, but it also contains a waxy substance prohibiting adhesion. more

Unfortunately, glass does not work as a resin mold. The mold needs to be flexible to release the resin. here

Resin will not stick to wax paper. Prepare a level surface for items to dry on that will not be disturbed. Have boxes or domes available to cover your resin projects while they are curing. This will keep out dust and other contaminants.

In addition to the above plastics, cyanoacrylate super glue does not adhere to the following surfaces: Wet surfaces. Very smooth surfaces like glass. Porous surfaces which fail to build strong instant bonds with cyanoacrylate adhesive like wood. more

Plastic packaging tape is excellent for this, duct tape is a favorite by some as is regular masking tape, though I’ve had both duct and masking tape stick to cured goo fairly well in the past so I use plastic packaging tape exclusively. here

Sticky resin is typically caused by inaccurate measuring or under mixing. The three most common sticky issues are: Liquid, runny resin: causes can include not following the correct 1:1 ratio of resin and hardener, or by adding too much colorant. The liquid resin will need to be scraped off before you pour a fresh coat.

Paints are formulated according to their proposed use - primer, undercoat, special finishes (matt, gloss, heat resistance, anti-corrosion, abrasion resistance). The pigment powder is broken down into individual particles which are coated by and dispersed in the binder (resin) - known as 'wetting out'. Solvent is then added to give the required consistency. Each batch of ingredients is thoroughly mixed in large, stirred containers with the required additives (Figure 1). Amounts ranging up to 40 000 dm 3 of paint may be made in a single batch.

Lead compounds are no longer used in decorative paints and automotive paints. The quantity of lead compounds still being used in specialised industrial paints has been greatly reduced and eventually alternatives will be found. This also applies to chromates which, although they perform well and in the past have been extensively used on motor vehicles, are very toxic.
Because volatile hydrocarbons can lead to pollution in the troposphere, coatings with lower organic solvent content are required. The routes to achieve this include:

The value of n can be controlled to give a range of resins varying from viscous liquids to solids with high melting points. Epoxy resins can be carried in solvents such as aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones and esters (solvent-borne paints) or as dispersions in water (water-borne paints) as true emulsions. They are not normally used in topcoats for outdoors because they are susceptible to UV degradation, but they make excellent interior coatings and exterior primers. here

Mold release. We use mold release to keep resin from sticking to molds. Plus, it is great for prolonging the life of molds. It lets you demold resin jewelry and crafts without having to distort and pull at the mold as much, which can cause warping and microtears that impact future castings.

Painter’s tape of packing tape – either clear or brown masking tape. This is incredibly useful if you want to create open-backed bezel pendants with resin. Once the resin is cured, peel the tape away! You can see why the tape is important in this article: how to make open-backed resin pendants. here
