Did you know that the statement “Do not be afraid” is the most repeated command in the Bible?
The reason that is such an encouragement is not because it’s a command to overcome an emotion. It's merely just an invitation to bring Jesus in to focus and to know that his presence & his love shrinks our fears.
Recently, our own Don Burns had an ablation done in order to remedy a heart complication he had as a result of atrial fibrillation. While the surgery was successful, unfortunately some complications have popped up so we just ask that you pray for him and his family during this time as he heals.
Here Paul makes the even more cringe-inducing connection that, in thinking of ourselves as superior to others, we're not only forgetting what we have received, but we are also boasting about it as if I had not received it – I’m boasting about my own holiness as if I were personally responsible for it. I’m boasting about Christ’s work as if it were my work.
I think that we refrain from praying honestly because we think God will be angry, but here’s the deal when it comes to God. He knows our brokenness. He knows the depths of our heart. He sees the hurts we can’t remember that cause the behavior that we can’t explain. We’re not always going to feel God working in our lives but I can assure that He still is.
The Apostle Paul even warns the Corinthians about lifting themselves up on their supposed merits as if they were responsible for generating them: here

It’s an insult that Dwight often falls back on when he can’t think of anything else, but he also uses it when Jim pays a compliment to somebody or when he says something positive. In this case, Jim excitedly tells the office that it’s snowing outside, to which Dwight unnecessarily calls him a little girl.
