Eletrical wire distance from gas line
See full version: Can I run electrical and gas in the same trench
Secondly, can you run gas line next to electrical? By the NEC there is no distance to maintain between the electric lines and gas lines. In fact the 1999 NEC required that you bond to the gas line, they have since removed that requirement. But as the other person posted some utilities have their own standards.

You can run the water in the gas trench or the the electrical trench. Just can't run gas and electrical together. Ask your local plumbing inspector, these codes are strict and can very from place to place. more

Plumbing and electrical in the same wall cavity are fine, even if they do touch. Remember, all electrical is insulated. Bare ground wires are OK too.

Accordingly, can you run plumbing and electrical through the same hole?

Likewise, can I run electrical and gas in the same trench? Natural gas and electric are run in the same trench all the time by utilities, and in some cases there isn't even any significant separation. [links]

NMB stands for Non-Metallic because it has a PVC jacket instead of a metal clad jacket. It is a basic indoor electrical wire used to deliver power from an electrical box to lights, outlets and appliances.

I cannot cite the exact code but I think there is a rule that the meter/breaker panel or a/c disconnect has to be 3 ft apart. from the gas line stub-up.
I think this is a building code, and not a nec code.

Here our utility puts gas and electric all in the same trench, they say they went to this to prevent an explosion if the gas is ever dug in to, if the gas is by itself then you have gas just building up that can explode, but if the electric lines are there then it just catches on fire and burns off. here

If you have large excavation equipment 12 inches is still not enough to prevent this. 36 inch backhoe bucket can get both easily in same stroke in many different circumstances.

Colleague asked this, sent him here, could not find the info so I dug it out and stuck it in the closest search term. [links]
