Mediterranean Rainbow Wrasse
These fish are common to the area, and are known for their colorful scales. The maximum length of these species is around 10 inches, and all fish start in their initial, small phase. After this, both females and males can turn into larger males during a secondary phase. You will notice a difference in the appearance of these fish depending on which phase they have entered. For example, smaller fish in their first phase will often be brown with white stomachs and yellow sides. In the second phase, males are green, brown, or blue, with a white stomach, and a dark blue spot over the fin. Despite their name, these fish are not exclusive to the region, and can also be found in the Atlantic Ocean - where their color and genetics will differ. Rainbow Wrasse are often found near the shore, especially in close proximity to rocks and sea grass, so you will be able to take your own fish pictures. They are usually found at depths of up to 200 feet, but can be found as deep as nearly 400 feet. more
