The origin of World Cat can be traced back over a quarter of a century to the beginning of our Glacier Bay Edition boats in America’s Pacific Northwest. Today, World Cat is the largest maker of power catamarans in the world. Located in Tarboro, North Carolina, our boats are precision crafted in a state-of-the-art 140,000 square foot facility. more

While we build an array of boats in different sizes and configurations, each is a reflection of our mission to deliver the smoothest ride on water – making boating more enjoyable and giving boaters the comfort and confidence to cruise, fish, dive, and explore the water world around them. [links]

In a statement, Brockway describes Glacier Bay as Mercedes-Benz and World Cat as BMW.

"World Cat has competed with Glacier Bay for over 10 years and this competition will continue in the future," Brockway said. "World Cat will focus on the performance of their semi-displacement hulls and Glacier Bay will continue developing full displacement cats.  here

"They have very distinct brands and different customers," Brockway said. "Our goal to keep these brands separate and our challenge is to continue chipping away at the V-hull market.  We need to continue to educate the marketplace as to the significant advantages of owning a power catamaran. The V-hulls are our competitors . . . they have historically owned the market share we seek.” more

I love my 2004 2670 Isle Runner (purchased used in 2006) especially compared to my 1990 SeaRay Laguna 23 (mono-hull). It is much more comfortable (once you get used to it -- because it may be significantly different than what you may be used to) It gets twice the gas mileage with Honda 4-stroke 150's and no 2-stroke oil needed either. I can usually plan on getting at least 2 mpg on a typical outing and often do better. If you can get your hands on Glacier Bay's Factory Tour DVD, definitely watch it. I was sold after viewing it.

Is a cat the correct boat for so cal?

Owners will completely understand this comparative analogy: It handles and drives more like a car than a motorcycle. It maneuvers easily especially in tight areas, you can walk it up to the dock using differential thrust on the two engines and it pivots well.

As far as power cats go, GB's are probably the worst riding of all power cats. The boat is built well, but IMO, they run like shit (again, IMO). I own a 26' Twin Vee Pilot House and absolutely LOVE it for SoCal and anyplace windy. It is a 100% planing hull and rarely spits water forward due to a better design. Once the afternoon chop picks up, I fly by almost every mono hull out there on the way home, bone dry and with my spine still in one piece! here
