Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan ruled Abu Dhabi from 1912–1922. He acceded after the death of his elder brother Tahnoun. Hamdn bin Zayed was the second son of Zayed I. He wasn’t popular with his policies and discontinued the subsidies paid to family members, besides disrupting Abu Dhabi’s trade relations.
Hamdan oversaw the continuation of authority breaking down after his father’s strong reign. Fighting broke out between the Bedouin tribes in Liwa and Buraimi and Handan being an ally of the Wahhabis managed to bring uneasy truce.
Hamdan was killed by his younger brother Sultan in August 1922. After his murder, Zayed’s other two sons were estranged and Abu Dhabi went into a state of confusion. Hamdan’s brother went onto kill Sultan to avenge the brother’s death to become the Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Hamdan’s daughter, Latifa, fled to Dubai and married Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. Hamdan bin Zayed is married to Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan. They have six sons: Sultan (is married and has two sons: Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan (born 23 December 2011 in Abu Dhabi and Sheikh Hamdan bin Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, who is currently studying for a bachelor's degree in Business Management at Coventry University (London Campus), Mohammed, Zayed ((born 4 April 1990 in Abu Dhabi) graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in London in 2009), Yas, Hazza and Rashid.
