Good things to look at there. Hadn't thought about hooking the fuel filter up wrong, but right now I'd guess that's what I did since I took the lines off and replaced them.

I'll pull the fuel pump and check it too. here
OK, last week had a rough night and ended up blowing the fusible link that comes off the solenoid. Killed the whole Jeep. Went back the next morning and fixed that, and when Jeep fired up I noticed my fuel lines were cracked coming off the filter (stock 1 inlet, 2 outlet). I put new fuel lines on, and everything's great.
I put this carb on the Jeep around 2003-2004, and even though it's only got around 6K on it since, now that you said that, it makes sense that it's a carb issue. even with no fuel pump and no line hooked up, the bowl should still be full and give me a shot of gas.
When I had my MC 2100 carb, it used to do the same thing. If it sat for more than 2 or 3 days, I had to run the starter for 30-60 seconds before it kicked off. However, it always finally cranked. The mechanical fuel pump is a diaphragm type, and it should be able to prime itself unless the diaphragm is old and worn out and has holes or cracks. You can remove it and inspect it fairly easily. Replacements are relatively cheap. Another possibility is the "sock" in your gas tank is plugged. Check everything else first though, because dropping the gas tank is a pain.
Except now when i let the Jeep sit for a couple days it won't start. I have to pour gas down in the carb throat, then it fires right off and will stay running, and starts fine as long as I don't let it sit for more than a day or two. Almost like all the gas in the fuel line runs back down in the tank while it sits.
My 97 s10 will run great but you have to put gas in the throttle body for it to start. It will turn over but needs the direct contact of gas. There is also this ticking noise that is only heard when you role the key over.
My car has an automatic transmission.
You would first need to check fuel pressure to make sure it is high enough, and replace the fuel pump if it is not. Then once the proper fuel pressure is achieved, clean the injection system. This may fix the hard start and if not, then the fuel injection spider would need replaced. If you want to have this inspected before moving forward with a repair, a certified pro from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to diagnose the hard start and let you know what needs to be done. here
The engine fuel injection on these engine have to have enough fuel pressure to pop the injectors open to get it to start. The system injectors are known to get clogged and stick when cold also.
I recently purchased a 1976 40. This truck sat in a barn for an entire year prior to me purchasing it. It was only driven less than 100 miles in the whole year. So far, I swapped out all the fluids and gave it a tune up- which it runs better.
When I first had it, the 40 would start up just fine- pull out the choke about 25 to 75% and turn the ignition.
I'm no expert but it would sound like a spark or fuel issue?? Many others on the forum are far more knowledgeable than I am. however. Mine sat for 12 years when I picked it up and these were some of the things I did to get it to run. Given you say you did a tune up I'm assuming that you've done these:
1). check/clean or replace the plugs - make sure you have good spark on each plug
2). Points - cleaned and gaped correctly
3). Timing
4). Fuel filter or filters
5). Replace all vacuum lines [links]
So basically to get it started I have to pour some gas into the carb and hold down the gas pedal with a very light touch in order to start the truck in the mornings.
If the truck is started it doesn't have much of a problem re-starting.
I soaked the carb in carb cleaner, put new gaskets, new needle and float, and basically took everything apart to further clean or replace what ever came in carb kit.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. [links]
