Hence, it is not surprising that their Bennington QR27 offers great upholstery, innovative technologies, and high-speeds to boast. When tested with a powerful Yamaha 250HP four-stroke engine, the pontoon boat quickly reached a top speed of 51.3mph.

Besides this, you can choose your prop for different activities too. If you are interested in skiing, the right prop has a noticeably different pitch to help you get on the plane quickly. Unfortunately, this prop will affect your speed on the water. more

As a result, they want to opt for speedier models that are the best of both worlds.

If you think that pontoon boats are the same low-speed simple sailing boats that they were twenty years ago, you should definitely think again.

Besides this, pontoon boats are quite large to accommodate more people. If you plan to sail at high-speeds, you will need to reduce the weight. Either invest in a comparatively lightweight model with limited accessories or invite fewer people on your boat. more

Knew someone who had a 16 foot with a 50 on it and it only went around 26-27mph.

Only way to know if the motor can handle the prop without losing too much RPMs is to find someone who has the same setup or try it. Maybe borrow a prop from your dealer?

A 40hp Pontoon boat with an average load of people can expect to reach speeds of around 10 – 15 mph.

A single 115 to 150-hp engine can produce a reasonable performance for an entry-level fiberglass sportboat from 17′-19′, depending on the load. With it, a powerboat in this range can have a top speed from 40 to 45 mph, with cruising speeds in the mid-20s. here

Typical horsepower for a 14-foot jon boat would be between 15 HP and 20 HP although up to 25 HP is not uncommon either. 20 HP can comfortably give you a top speed of 20mph, potentially even stretching to 25mph depending on weather conditions and the weight on the boat.

The little 4 horse was fine on the 12 foot V bottom. My brother borrowed it to use on his 12 foot V and couldn't come against the current on a channel with just two of them in the boat. He had to use the trolling motor to help the gas motor.

All in all I'd say that if you're fishing smaller lakes or even large lakes in good weather you'll get by with it. Just keep in mind you're not going anywhere fast and stay off the rivers that have a noticeable current.
