I used a 6 pt wrench to get mine off, 12 pt will slip worse on a tight bolt. Also make sure whether it is metric or standard, and use the tighter fitting one. I have both standard and metric on my motor? What a pain. more

I know exactly what you are talking about. have you tried both a 12 point and 6 point socket. I think the 6 point socket will barely fit. it is tight though and you may have to bang the socket on with a hammer. That is what I did.
How much does it cost to replace a starter motor? In an average front-wheel drive car like Honda Accord or Toyota Corolla with a 4-cylinder engine, the labor charge to replace a starter motor varies between $95 and $175.
How long does the starter motor last? On average, a starter motor lasts for 100,000-150,000 miles. In many cars, the starter motor lasts for the lifetime of the vehicle; however in some cars, it can fail prematurely.
How do mechanics check a starter motor? In the old days, the trick was to tap the starter motor lightly with a small hammer and see if it starts working after that. If it did, a mechanic knew the starter motor was bad. Today, mechanics simply measure the voltage at the starter motor terminals. A starter motor has two wires connected to it: a small wire for the control circuit and a larger cable that is connected to the positive battery terminal. If there is a battery voltage at both starter terminals when pressing the Start button or turning the key and the starter motor doesn't run, it's bad and needs to be replaced. more
An aftermarket starter motor (part) costs $85-$220 plus the core charge. Many part stores will refund you the core charge if you return the old starter motor (core).
An original (OEM) starter motor is more expensive ($270-$480).
For example, one of our friends decided to replace the starter motor in his 2014 Honda Accord. He said that once in a while it would take a few tries for a car to start and that the problem was getting worse. He paid $390 for an original part plus $127 labor at the dealership.
What are the signs that the starter motor is going bad? Sometimes a starter motor just stops working one day with no prior signs. In some cases, when the starter motor is going bad, you may notice that the engine won't turn over on the first attempt; it may take several tries before the starter motor engages. Sometimes a worn-out or shorted starter may turn over slower than usual, even if the battery is fully charged or new. In some cars a starter motor may produce abnormal grinding or screeching noises when it's going bad. Another sign is when at times a starter motor won't crank the engine when hot, but works fine when it's cold. more
1. How long will a Duffy electric boat travel using batteries?
With the single battery pack, smaller Duffy electric boats will go for 3.5 hours, averaging just above 5 mph, for 17.5 miles (assuming calm winds and no current). Our larger Duffy electric boats can go slightly faster. Using the double battery pack you can expect to double the time and distance plus an additional 15%.
This is one of our most commonly asked questions! The batteries we use as standard equipment have a life of over 800 cycles. Depending on how well you maintain (keep charged and full of water) it can even last up to 1,200 times. The battery’s lifetime also depends on how far down you take the charge on your typical outing or cruise. Discharging to 100% will severely cut your cycles down by more than half. Conversely, if you don’t go below half charge on your normal run time, the batteries will cycle many more times than they are advertised. We have customers tell us they have had batteries last 10 years, but most replace theirs after about 5 or 6 years. more
All boats with electric start engines have a starter solenoid through which the electricity flows from the battery to the starter motor. If you turn the ignition key to the start position and nothing happens, you may be having a solenoid problem. Luckily, troubleshooting, repair or replacement of solenoids is routine work for a DIY inclined boat owner.
Lights, radios and most other electrical gear on a boat draw relatively little power and their electrical input is easily wired through switches between the power source and the items. A starter motor, however, may draw as many as 500 amperes when turning over a large engine. Heavy wire cable (often 3/0) is required to carry that much load safely.
Now touch the probe to the post to which the small-gauge red/yellow wire is attached. It should be cold until a helper turns the key to the start position at which time the test light should turn on. The final test is to touch the probe to the post that connects the solenoid to the starter. Again, have a helper turn the ignition key. more
If you are having any problems starting your car, the culprit could be an ailing starter. Have a certified mechanic come diagnose why your car is not starting including the starter and replace the starter if needed.
The starter motor can fail due to a number of different things, but wear and tear is the primary cause. Another potential issue is that the problem isn’t the starter at all. It’s controlled by a relay and if the relay fails, the starter won’t work. The starter may also not work if the battery’s charge is too low (the starter turns very slowly), or if the battery is dead (the starter won’t turn at all). here
If your starter does fail, you’ll be stuck until you get it fixed. Obviously, it’s important to know a few signs and symptoms to watch for that might indicate the starter is headed for an eventual failure. These include the following:
You turn the key in the ignition of your car and the engine cranks – that’s about as far as most drivers get in considering how the engine actually starts. What really happens is that when you turn the key in the ignition, a complex series of actions occurs. Voltage is sent to the starter, which pushes a large gear forward to connect with the engine’s flywheel. The starter motor then turns the gear, which turns the flywheel. When combined with spark, air and fuel, the engine cranks. more
Your car’s starter motor is used only when you crank the engine. In theory, it’s possible that your original starter will last for most of the vehicle’s life, but there’s really no set lifespan. They can fail at almost any point. The primary culprit of early starter failure is user error – holding the key in the start position for too long actually creates dead spots on the starter.
