Kursar was a pirate operating in the 1720s around Tortuga. In 1728, he was recruited in Tortuga by Captain Jack Sparrow prior to the pursuit of the Black Pearl as part of his motley crew, assembled to go after Sparrow's enemy Hector Barbossa. Kursar sailed the HMS Interceptor to Isla de Muerta during Will Turner's attempt to rescue Elizabeth Swann from Hector Barbossa's cursed crew, but was soon imprisoned with the other crewmen in the brig of the Black Pearl. After taking the Black Pearl, Kursar served under Jack Sparrow's command again.

In 1728, Kursar joined the motley crew of a commandeered British Royal Navy vessel, the HMS Interceptor, under notorious pirate Captain Jack Sparrow and rogue blacksmith Will Turner. He had been hired by Sparrow's first mate, Joshamee Gibbs, in Tortuga alongside eleven other crewmen, and was inspected by Sparrow, Gibbs and Turner there before agreeing to join them on their quest to regain Sparrow's beloved former ship, the Black Pearl, from his mutinous former first mate Hector Barbossa. They first sailed through a treacherous storm, during which Kursar and the other crewmen were soaked in the rain as several members of the crew began to doubt Sparrow's apparently broken compass. The following morning, Kursar and the rest of the crew looked over the railing of the Interceptor into the sea as the ship passed through a dangerous passageway, watching several sharks and other fish below them as the ship moved slowly onwards with the parrot of one member, Cotton, singing eerily. The pirates soon snapped back to work on orders from their captain. They later arrived at their destination, Isla de Muerta, where Sparrow and Turner went into the island alone, leaving the crew behind, ordering them to keep to the Pirate's Code. [1]

Will later came back out without Jack, instead with a rescued Elizabeth Swann, but the crew kept to the code and went on without him. When the Black Pearl attacked the Interceptor, Kursar manned the ship's cannons alongside Marty, Cotton, Moises, Tearlach, Matelot and Ladbroc. Kursar and the rest of the cannoneers survived and were taken prisoner, along with the other crewmen, by Barbossa's cursed crew to be imprisoned, left under the watch of two cursed pirates, Mallot and Grapple. However, they were later freed from their cell by Elizabeth and, despite the latter's futile attempts to convince them to go back for Will and Jack, took over the Black Pearl, leaving her on a longboat. Though they refused to help her rescue Will and Jack from Isla de Muerta, the pirates, now under Gibbs and crewman Anamaria with ten new recruits, later rescued Jack from the gallows and allowed him to become captain once more. [1] His further fate is unknown. here

Jurassic Park has a fictional setting, and this is the Isla Nublar which is supposed to be located not far off the coast of Costa Rica. As this does not exist, it was agreed that Kauai in Hawaii would be the backdrop for the movie. However, Mother Nature had other ideas and sent hurricane Iniki to hamper the process, meaning several scenes were actually shot in the Dominican Republic at the Chavon River. Thankfully, all was not lost as some were in the end captured in Costa Rica. here

There are plenty of other films that have used the Caribbean and the stunning scenery that it has to offer as a backdrop for their movies, but these are some of the best well known. Because this is a large archipelago of islands, there are certainly plenty of different destinations that directors and producers can choose when it comes to staging their movie in precisely the way they want. The Caribbean has a size of over 1.06 million square miles, most of which can be found between South America and North America. It is a climate area that is famous for plenty of sunshine, and it is almost impossible to go there and not see any. There are rainy seasons, but these can easily be avoided, and it does make a dream holiday destination for many people. Once global travel restrictions are lifted, there is no doubt that this will continue to be a popular choice for Hollywood producers.

A romantic comedy featuring Tom Cruise and known the world over as being something of a hideous flop. However, despite the rather unfortunate credit of two Golden Raspberry awards to its name for worst screenplay and worst picture, it has to be said that the backdrop was stunning as it was filmed in Jamaica. There were various locations picked along the North Shore, and these included real holiday resorts such as Sandals Royal Plantation and Dragon Bay Beach. All was not lost as it did appeal to a teenage population of young girls who were madly in love with the leading man. [links]

So many people rate the Shawshank redemption as one of the best movies of all times, and it really is a masterpiece. Obviously, the majority of the action is filmed inside the grotty Shawshank prison, but towards the end, there are actually scenes on the shores of Mexico which were actually filmed in the US Virgin Islands on the coast of St Croix at Sandy point. This is well known as being a turtle hatching ground. [links]

Featuring mermaids, the 1984 box office smash also stars Tom Hanks as our leading man in this romantic comedy. The action is set at Gorda Cay in the Bahamas, and this site has some impressive history. It was once used for drug runners and bootleggers, thankfully all illegal activity has now been curtailed, and it forms the home of a port for one of the Disney cruise liners. more

Captain of the Black Pearl and legendary pirate of the Seven Seas, Captain Jack Sparrow is the irreverent trickster of the Caribbean. A captain of equally dubious morality and sobriety, a master of self-promotion and self interest, he fights a constant and losing battle with his own best tendencies.
