The typical 42”x48” skids have built to withstand weights of up to 2500 lbs. But it is possible to reinforce skids and load 4500 lbs. on them. Although, of course, you must then be extra careful about managing the load distribution without breaching the DOT weight requirements. There are also the “Euro Pallets”. These are 48”x42” standard size pallet dimensions. This standard was set by the European Pallet Association or EPAL. Using them makes users eligible for the pallet swap system known as the EPP or European Pallet Pool. The US has a private company CHEP, that serves as a private exchange for reusing CHEP pallets, but no non-profit equivalent to the EPAL or EPP.
Usually, skids are 5.5” tall. Although, sizes can vary significantly with shippers custom-building skids for their purpose. Custom skids can be as low as 3.5” and as tall as 6”. more
On LTL trailers, such as the 28’ pups, for instance, the inner height can vary from 107” to 110” while the height of the door stays at 104”. It is a good idea to be mindful of how high you stack your boxes on the skids.
Then multiply the height of a single box by the largest number of stacked boxes from the floor up to calculate the total height of the load. The answer for this example is 90”. Then convert the inches to feet by dividing the total inches by 12, for a total of 7 feet 6 inches. [links]

A regular 40-foot shipping container has 2,391 cubic feet or 67.7 cubic meters of volume. A 40-foot-high cube shipping container has 2,700 cubic feet or 76.5 cubic meters of volume. [links]
A regular shipping container is 8 feet 6 inches high. A high cube shipping container is a foot taller, at 9 feet 6 inches high. Shipping container sizes are standardized and regulated so that different companies and transport mechanisms, such as railways, trucks and ships, can all handle the same shipping containers with one set of equipment. Standard shipping containers come in 20-foot, 40-foot and 53-foot lengths. The 53-foot size is not commonly used. Two 40-foot-high cube containers can be stacked and transported by most rail systems, making them the most efficient size for shipping.

A cubic yard is a measure of volume, or how much matter can fit in a space, such as a trailer. A trailer's volume in cubic yards is the amount of something that can fit in the trailer, such as gravel, wood chips or dirt. A trailer's dimensions, such as height, length or volume, are often provided in feet. If you know only its linear dimensions, such as height and length, convert them into volume in cubic feet before converting into cubic yards. If you already know a trailer's volume in cubic feet, convert cubic feet into cubic yards. more
