Keith Richards was great as Jack Sparrow's dad Captain Teague, but his backstory raises a lot of questions about Pirates of the Caribbean's antihero.

That said, there was still a lot for fans to love in these early Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones guitarist who inspired Depp’s Jack Sparrow, gives a stellar performance as Jack’s dad Captain Teague in the third movie of the series, and the cameo is a cute addition to the otherwise grim and dark - not to mention plot-hole ridden - At World’s End. However, the fact that Jack’s dad is alive, survives the movie and is a Pirate Lord mean Jack’s antics until this point looks a lot less impressive. While Richards is a delight, the presence of his character ends up sabotaging up the internal logic of the franchise. [links]

However, the series soon proved a huge hit, as evidenced by Disney’s recent attempts to recreate the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise’s success with Jungle Cruise. This meant that star Depp and director Gore Verbinski were given more creative freedom when it came to the sequels, a decision that proved both a blessing and a curse. While the remainder of the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy allowed Verbinski to tell a surprisingly tragic, complex story, the movies did also begin to rely on Depp’s Sparrow in a manner that would eventually spell the critical doom of the franchise. here

So, to all those who were confused by the recent hullabaloo about Paymobile offering a Black pirate with a slave collar around his neck. It's a valid image if you change one thing. The pirate should be holding the slave collar in his hand (having just ripped it off his own neck) and he should be waving a pirate flag! here

The legend of Diego Grillo has attached itself to many Black Caribbean pirates from the era. One Spanish priest writes of being captured by Grillo, and states that the pirate captain felt a particular hatred of the Spanish, who had enslaved him, and that Grillo made a special effort to burn Spanish ships. more

The problem with these African pirates is that, like most working pirates of their day, their stories remain untold. But a few names are noted in history. Hendrick Quintor, for instance, was a skilled Dutch sailor of African origin. He joined Bellamy’s crew when the Spanish brigantine he was sailing on was captured. Quintor was one of the few pirates to escape the disastrous hurricane that sank Bellamy’s flagship. more

Peter Cloise, a former slave, became a pirate after Edward Davis took him from his owner in 1679. They became close friends and went pirating in the Caribbean and along South America’s Pacific coast. After Davis’ ship put into Philadelphia in May 1688, Cloise was arrested, but no records of his execution have been found. here

Potential new franchise additions aside, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales actress Kaya Scodelario (who played Captain Barbossa’s daughter Carina Smyth) told ScreenRant in 2017 that she’s contractually obligated to look in a more Pirates movie. It’s possible that the movie could just pick up in which the fifth left off with much of the same cast — such as Orlando Bloom, that has been reported to reunite as Will Turner. But it is not even clear whether or not Johnny Depp will look in another film. As Pirates of the Caribbean executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer informed Collider in May 2020, “The [script] we are developing right now, we’re not sure quite what Johnny’s function will be. Thus, we’re going to need to see.” here

Taking all that into account and understanding Pirates 6 is in development right now, it may be as many as four years until we see Pirates of the Caribbean 6, judging from the timeline its predecessor operated on. more

An initial release date announcement for the movie didn’t come until July 2014, three years before Dead Men Tell No Tales launched in theatres. Deadline declared in November 2014 that Brenton Thwaites was cast as Will and Elizabeth’s son Henry Turner — a news fall came two and a half years before the movie was released in May 2017. more

Many fans — including ScreenRant’s Lauren Coates — have argued that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 ought to concentrate on Redd, a once-problematic character in the original Pirates of the Caribbean theme park ride. In the original version of the attraction, Redd was a captive being sold at a bride auction. In 2018, the journey was upgraded and Redd became a pirate auctioning off the goods she stole out of the village. Gillan’s alleged participation with Pirates 6 could certainly turn that idea into a more solid concept because the figure in the ride and she has hair. [links]

Nobody has officially joined the Pirates 6 cast, but a favorite rumor is that Disney wants Karen Gillan to lead the movie, which will allegedly be based around a female lead (more on that in a little ). The Guardians of the Galaxy actress is one of the celebrities of the Jumanji reboot film show — and as a Destiny film celebrity, she would earn a fantastic match for the Pirates franchise. There also have been rumors that Disney is considering Emma Watson to the next Pirates Movies after she amazed at her star turn from Beauty and the Beast. Heck, there was chatter that Zac Efron would play a Jack Sparrow. Of course, these rumors are only rumors until Disney goes ahead and makes casting announcements. here

The legitimate Man-of-War was invented by Sir John Hawkins around the mid-1500's. It was over two hundred feet long, had up to one hundred and twenty cannon, and had three masts. A smaller version was later called the frigate. more

In the 1630s, the rogue English captain Nathaniel Hawk encountered and fought the manowar Belette off the shores of Khael Roa. This manowar was the only known ship of her class in the archipelago, captained by the governor of Redmond island, Sir Robert Christopher Silehard, himself. She was either sunk or captured by Nathaniel's fleet.

In Pirates of the Caribbean, the Man-of-War is designated as Manowar, and is the second strongest ship in the game, after the Black Pearl. The Manowar carries 100 cannon and is manned by around 950 crew.

A Man-of-war (or manowar) was a type of heavy warship used in the Caribbean in the 1600's. Such ships were the largest and most powerfully-armed in the archipelago, and were exceptionally rare to encounter.
