This is the cost of the fuel you use to heat your boat (not navigate it). For starters, if you have a gas fired central heating system be warned! These are very expensive and would eat through a whole bottle of gas in a week. Unless you have money to burn, you might want to lay off the gas central heating and only use it in emergencies. more

If you are paying someone else to service your boat, make sure to read your boats’s engine manual and get exact timescales for when these services are needed. If you are doing it yourself, you can do more regular minor services. more

Of course, this is impossible to quantify exactly as it is very much dependent on the type of problem you have. Cost of engine parts, for example, will vary wildly. [links]

The price of diesel ranges hugely, from around 70 pence/litre to over £1. Ask any live-aboard who’s been travelling for a while, and they’ll tell you the cheapest places to fill up!
3/ The ‘seal’ in the bowl was leaking, which meant the liquid (water) filled the tank faster. Luckily Barry’s mended it now! In 2020 we spent over £100 less.

It might look a lot of money at first but don't forget that's accommodation and entertainment as well for all of your party! And you can save money by eating in!
You have to pay a deposit and pay the balance usually six to eight weeks before the holiday. If you are booking at short notice, or from overseas, you may have to pay the full amount to book. Check with the hire or hotelboat company.

Prices are highest during the summer months (June, July & August) when a fully catered and organised Hotel Boat week for one person will cost about £600 to £700 (UK pounds). A self drive hire-boat will be about £200 per person per week to which must be added food costs. These costs are illustrative only and will vary with standard of accommodation and service, time of the year etc. However they obviously compare very favourably with hotel prices which can cost between £300 and £1000 per person per week for average hotel accommodation without food or activities! All the hire boat websites or hotelboat websites will have exact figures.
