Based on the boat’s size alone, there is a guide where you can establish the size motor. here
The weight of the boat is sometimes a consideration before buying one. Aside from the usual length related to the motor size, professionals consider the boat’s horsepower per pound. [links]
It is best to know what size motor for 16 foot aluminum boat works optimally. The right size motor will keep you safe in the sea, and will also protect your aluminum boat for a long time.
Aluminum boats are versatile motorboats. They can be brought around the open sea for fishing, or only for leisure activities. These boats are lightweight and can be customized depending on the owner. So aside from its versatility in usage, you can modify this boat internally.
Check the manufacturer’s limit on the motor size. They may have a preferred motor size, so prior to buying one, read on the boat’s manual or capacity plate. [links]
We have a 14' jon at a hunt club, and found a 25 was too fast for the younger or inexperienced operators, so when it died, we dropped to a 15. Since the 14' is the boat most children grow up with, who is using it is a consideration. It's good to have something you can just turn a 13 year old loose in (when they are big enough to pull start it, they are big enough to drive.)
Re: What horsepower motor to use on light weight 14' aluminum boat? more
I recently bought a 14 v-hull for fishing with my family. It came with a 7.5 merc, and after tuning the motor the best I could get was 7/8 mph. I sold that motor and bought a 15hp yamaha and I am getting 23/24 mph. I'd highly recommend at least a 15, but that is probably large enough. I am the same. Store the motor in the garage and the aluminum boat outdoors.

One of the most essential factors determining how much gas your boat will use is the motor. A motor should be properly maintained at least once per season by an expert. This will help save you money in the long run in fuel costs and mechanical issues.
The amount of gas that a boat uses depends on a variety of factors.
A good bass boat tends to spend most of its time trolling or idle while fishing, but getting from place to place can still eat up your gas. However, fuel consumption on a bass boat is better than a pontoon. here
The amount of fuel burned by a boat will vary depending on the age, condition, and maintenance level of the boat overall and its engine. A boat in overall poor condition will have poor fuel mileage.

This means that if you do find a leak in your tank, you have to literally destroy the cockpit floor of your boat to remove the tank. Some boat manufacturers who have a conscience and basic good sense install a removable panel in the cockpit floor so that owners can regularly inspect the fuel tank thoroughly. On a wood floor, that might mean a piece of plywood above the tank that is screwed into place. On boats with molded cockpit floors, it would be a fiberglass lid that is probably both screwed and siliconed in place. here
If you need to replace a leaky fuel tank, find a polyethylene replacement. When the American Boat and Yacht Council used a Coast Guard grant to study poly tanks, they found that the synthetic tanks installed as much as two decades ago had zero failures, and the ABYC says that polyethylene tanks pose no risk at all. But until you buy a boat with poly tanks or replace the aluminum tank in your boat, continual watchfulness is your best defense.
Frozen with his hand on the ignition, Dave looked at his father and then he, too, smelled the unmistakable tang of gas fumes. In the bilge and directly under the engine, was a puddle of gasoline. The gas dock attendant took one look, sprinted for the phone and quickly dialed 911 where the operator gave the almost unnecessary advice, "Sir, get everyone well away from the boat."
