Absolutely, but you don’t have to. If you’d rather leave it to your Yamaha Marine dealer, they will be happy to take care of it for you in their specially trained and properly equipped service department. That also means you won’t have to dispose of the used oil yourself. But if you prefer to do it yourself, your Yamaha Marine dealer can set you up with a Genuine Yamalube Oil Change Kit, specific to your Yamaha outboard. It includes the right type and amount of Yamalube marine oil, a Genuine Yamaha oil filter and a drain gasket. Everything you’ll need to do the job right. Kits are available in Yamalube 4M 10W-30 and 20W-40 weights.

You’ve heard the expression “choose wisely.” When it comes to choosing an engine oil and filter to protect your Yamaha, this couldn’t be more true. Using the correct oil and filter at the recommended intervals is the single most important thing you can do for your outboard.

Go to Wally World and buy your self a quart of Quicksilver Marine Lower Unit oil in the package that has the pump, a fitting to fit your lower unit drain plug, and a pump to pump it in. Marine lower unit oil is more than just 80 or 80-90, or 80-140 hypoid gear oil. It is specifically developed for the marine environment to combat water contamination/rust problems with gear boxes that operate submerged in water. It has a special additive that makes it stick to the metal providing insulation between the metal and any water that leaks into the gear box. more

Must use 80/90w MARINE grade. You'll need the connection hose the goes to the lower unit. You have to drain and then pump the new oil in and up from the bottom till it comes out the top.

Pump the pump till you see fluid and some bubbles at the vent hole. Pump a little more to reduce the quantity of bubbles. [links]

Always make sure that your lower unit is filled with enough before you operate your outboard, because if not, it can cause serious damage that will cost a lot of money to repair. Checking the oil level is not difficult, pretty much like checking the oil of your car. Just remove the upper oil plug then insert a small wire into the hole about an inch deep and take it out. If the wire touches the oil then you know that the oil is at the right level. If you don’t find any oil on the wire then it should be refilled until you reach the right level. here
