Buying a proper carb clean product, the ones for soaking purposes will be way cheaper than buying a new carb, disassemble all carb parts, remove all plastic, rubber bits from it and let soak for 3-4 hours, remove, squirt generic carb spray through air/fuel passages, dry, assemble back and test. If money is not an issue and want to avoid future headaches, buy a new carb..
I would not have a shop clean the carb. If I had the dollars, I would buy new, but even a new carb has a 5% chance of coming from the factory with blocked passages. I cleaned my own, and had if off four times before I found ALL the passages. It runs fine now, thought, and I know a LOT more about carbs!
Otherwise, the only addition I would make with Sea Rider is to use the spray cleaner so that ALL passages are free. You should identify and clean idle circuit, transition passages (leading to the five little holes behind the throttle plate) accelerator circuit, FE circuit, and main jet circuit. Replace all gaskets and 'O" rings as well as the center emulsion tube (and its "O" ring), and double check all other emulsion tubes for blocked passages. here
SEVEN HONDA BF10 - 10hp - MODELS:
There are now now less than seven models of the Honda 10hp outboard engine available in the UK from Jan 2021 onwards. So pay attention at te back of the classroom: this could get complicated. There are the three short (S) models and three long (L) shaft and one extra-long (XL) model of the Honda 10hp. There are only two manual pull start (recoil) models. There are no less than five electric start version of the Honda 10hp models in 2021:

The standard propeller is alloy.This is the most popluar model the Honda BF10 SHU : which is quote above . You can have either combination of the different shaft lengths with the manual start versions.
The Honda BF8, 10,15,20 outboard engine are four very similar marine outboard engines in the Honda range: the Honda BF10 being the big brother of the Honda BF8. The Honda BF15 and BF20 are their more powerful cousins, a very-slightly different specification, however all four models are all almost the same weight to carry.

Honda Marine provides information about the year an outboard motor was built through the serial numbers of motors manufactured between 1997 and 2006. To determine if your model was made during or after those years, you can match two letters embedded into the serial number with a corresponding year on a chart.
Look around the side of the outboard, just below the widest top part of the motor. If you cannot locate it, call a Honda Marine dealer for assistance. Find the two-digit letter or letter and number combination around the middle of the sequence, just after a number that corresponds to the horsepower of the engine. For example, if your serial number has the following format: XX25A3XXXX, 25 indicates the horsepower amount, and A3 indicates the year built.
Specific two-digit letter and number combinations match respective years between 1997 and 2006. As of 2014, DK or AK indicates anything made in 2007 or beyond. Motors with letters or numbers that don't have a match were made before 1997. here

To bump this back to the top, I'm seriously looking at buying a long shaft "loaded" 20 HP Honda in early 2004. Loaded, meaning the power lift option, etc.<br /><br />Is there anything that I should be aware of, before I buy the engine? I'm basically after the lightest 4-stroke 20 HP on the market.<br /><br />Thanks, Ron here
