White plastic turns yellow over time due to a chemical reaction that occurs when it is exposed to light, oils, etc. There are a couple of different ways to get rid of this discoloration, ranging from easy to more difficult. Look through the methods to find one that works best on your particular project. Some are more practical for larger projects, while others are ideal for smaller pieces. Cleaning foggy plastic is important for both aesthetic and functional reasons. Foggy plastic headlights, for instance, can diminish your ability to see when driving at night, while foggy plastic cups and blenders are unsightly. To clean foggy plastic, wipe it down first with a mixture of soap and water. If that doesn’t help, you could soak or wipe away the fogginess with a combination of vinegar, baking soda, and possibly water. Seriously foggy headlights might require sanding and polishing using a handheld rotary sander-polisher.
TIP: Avoid spraying lubricant directly onto the window. It could create a greasy mess on the frame that’s difficult to remove. Also, if the lubricant gets onto the glass, it could leave a permanent mark. more
TIP: Don’t use WD-40 to lubricate sticking windows. This product could gum up the tracks and make the problem worse. more
