Pour RV antifreeze directly into the thermostat opening or into the large hose attached to it. Keep pouring until you see a steady stream of the pink stuff running out of the block drain plug. Tip the trailer up (so it drains well) and place a bucket under the hull drain plug. Then remove the plug (Photo 3).

What happens if you don't winterize your boat?

Start the engine up again, open the valve to the tank of the winterizing kit, and watch the antifreeze level drop in the tank. You should begin to see antifreeze discharging from the exhaust. When the tank is nearly empty, begin spraying fogging oil into the carburetor.

Referring to "engine coolant" as "antifreeze" has slipped into common usage and muddies the picture of two very different but important boat chemicals. This confusion can be harmful for people working on their boats if they mix them up. more

How do you drain antifreeze and coolant from your boat engine? For engine coolant, there should be a plug or valve low on the engine which you can open to drain the coolant for disposal. In the spring, when it's time to get the antifreeze from winterizing out of your engine, it's much easier - just start the engine and it will come out with the raw water exhaust.

Deep in the bowels of your boat, there's no airflow, so air cooling does not work. Instead, raw water is pulled in from outside the boat and run through a heat exchanger. Hot engine coolant runs through sealed tubes inside the heat exchanger and to shed the heat from the engine into the cool seawater. The water gushing out with your exhaust is this heated seawater carrying the excess engine heat away. here

While engine coolant prevents freezing in an engine and this is one of its roles, its primary function is to make engine cooling more efficient by raising the boiling point of the cooling water in the engine. Most engine coolant is made from ethylene glycol and protective additives and is highly toxic. It can cause blindness or death and may have a sweet taste and smell that attracts pets and young children. more

I drain the water from the block & manifold on my 3.0. I also add antifreeze to both. But, I also live in the northeast where below zero is not uncommon. And I stay away from "winterization" kits. Been doing it that way for more than 15 yrs., so it works for me. Ain't cracked anything yet.

7 For additional assurance against freezing and rust, remove the
thermostat cover and thermostat. Fill the engine seawater cooling
system with a mixture of antifreeze and tap water mixed to manufac-
turer's recommendation to protect engine to the lowest temperature
to which it will be exposed during cold weather or extended storage.
Using a new gasket, reinstall thermostat and cover. Tighten cover
bolts securely.
Perform all checks, inspections, lubrication, and fluid changes out-
lined in MAINTENANCE CHART under AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR.
