Looking for guidance re the high pressure side of fuel system and any comments/suggestions on my "plan of attack" [links]
Recently purchased a 2009 DF90A, engine has not ran since 2014, previous owner estimates 30 hours on engine. 2014 winterization was done by a friend of hers and she assumes fuel was stabilized, previous winterizations done at dealership with fuel stabilizer added. After reading many post on this forum I have decided to err on the side of caution and drain the entire fuel system even though with the previous winterizations and the little use the engine has had since, there should be enough stabilized fuel in the system that the ethanol portion of the 87 octane should still be suspended in the fuel.
My plan of attack:
1) Syphon all the fuel from tank
2) Replace low pressure fuel filter
3) Drain Fuel Vapor Separator
4) High Pressure side is where I get confused. Not sure how to get residual fuel from the high pressure side out.
5) Orginal impeller(2009) will replace it.
6) Check engine/lower unit oil for cleanliness and levels
7) Start it up with muffs with fresh fuel plus a good dose of Seafoam, check engine for leaks and abnormalities.
I do have a service manual for this engine. Somewhat mechanically inclined. more

There is no way that I know of that water from the cooling system can get into the fuel system so that it gets into the supply before the VST.
I would say it is likely to have a big load of water in the main tank and, probably, associated trash in the tank, lines, primer bulb, filters - you get my drift, most likely the whole fuel system is water/debris contaminated. Never going to fix that by just fixing one bit of it, IMO the best and most methodical approach if you really want to fix this properly is to clean the whole "fuel system". From Tank to injectors. Did you change your water separator filter?
And then do a complete clean out of the fuel system from the tank to filter and thru to fuel pumps, the VST and rails. I would look closely at the lp and hp fuel pumps, water can cause internal corrosion, esecially if somehow salt water is involved - we had a member of our fishing club who had salt water getting into tank via a badly positioned breather fitting and man, it destroyed those pumps. more
