The working hours on a superyacht are long, and it’s the nature of the job that when the owner and guests are awake, you’re busy doing everything you can to make them comfortable, so 12 or 14 hour days are not unusual. The daily work schedule is regimented and laborious, but doing your job to the highest standards possible does bring with it a huge sense of pride.

Is it a good idea to fly down to Antibes in France or Palma in Mallorca, to find work? They say lots of new crew find jobs this way. The reality is that you can find a job by flying to the location, but you will spend your hard earnt cash and most people don’t find a job. There are far too many dock walkers looking for jobs in these locations. Marina’s and shipyards generally don’t allow access and most boats are fed up with collecting CV’s. For sure you will mingle with others looking for work and party hard, but most probably you’ll spend more money than you will earn by doing few gigs as a day worker.
