NOTE: This propeller selector, and the information it provides, is to be used only as a general reference guide. Results will differ, based on various factors including, but not limited to, application, conditions, and load. More accurate information for a particular boat/application may often be obtained from the boat manufacturer. The most effective method to select the proper propeller for a particular boat and engine application (based on usage and needs) is to test various propellers directly on that boat. Part numbers are provided for reference only, and may change at any time. [links]

I pulled the trigger on the prop and it is being shipped to me so I guess i will get the thrust washer and try it out and report back.

I wasn't asking for assistance with determining proper pitch or picking the correct combo for my application as I understand that is mostly a trial and error process. I have a guy that I work with who is a retired Mercury master mechanic and he has seen my rig and advised the pitch and blade combo's that would be a good starting point for me to try but he is unfamiliar with this specific prop and Johnson motor being a Mercury guy and retired from the business for over 10yrs.

I have researched and found that I will definitely need a new thurst washer/bushing.

If it will work as of pushing combo, definitely will work. But will not know if once set will achieve for OB to run middle to max wot rpm factory stated. Will need to tach OB along current load. What are you trying to accomplish going for that prop ?

If engine is already hitting 5800 wot rpm at little more than half throttle, imagine the high over revving engine will achieve when lightly loaded. If that's the case engine needs a higher pitch prop to decrease wot revs. here

I was actually trying to find out if this prop would physically fit my motor and if a weed ring was needed. [links]

Propeller diameter is pretty easy to understand – it’s simply the diameter of the circle scribed by the blade tips as the prop rotates. Imagine attaching a pencil to the tip of one blade and then turning the prop over a sheet of paper. That would trace a circle representing the propeller’s circumference; the diameter of that circle is the length of a straight line traversing the widest point of that circle.

Changing propeller pitch is rather like changing gears up or down on a bicycle – in low gear you can accelerate quickly from a standing start, but soon your legs will be spinning and you won’t go very fast. In high gear you’ll need to mash the pedals to start moving but you’ll eventually reach a faster top speed. All else being equal, adding propeller pitch will decrease wide-open throttle (WOT) engine speed, while subtracting pitch will increase WOT RPM. If prop pitch is too low, engine RPM at wide-open throttle may be too high (above the engine’s recommended WOT RPM range) and, while boat acceleration may be strong, top speed will suffer. If the prop pitch is too high, acceleration will suffer and the engine will “lug” or not be able to reach the bottom of the recommended WOT RPM range. Either condition – WOT RPM that is too high or too low – can damage the engine and drive components. here

You’ll often be able to find these dimensions stamped right on the hub or barrel of your boat propeller. For example, a propeller marked as 14 x 19 has a diameter of 14 inches and pitch of 19 inches, always in that order. Let’s define those terms.

Propeller pitch is usually described as the theoretical distance in inches a prop would move in one revolution through a soft solid. Think about turning a screw into wood, or a corkscrew into a wine bottle cork. Our 14 x 19 prop will thus move 19 inches forward with each revolution. A 14 x 21 prop would move 21 inches with each revolution, and so is doing more work – and moving faster – than the 19-pitch prop at the same RPM. Some Mercury propeller models are offered in one-inch pitch increments, while others come in two-inch increments. more

• A new propeller's hub and blades must be checked for sufficient lower unit and trim tab clearances before use.

• Wide open throttle RPM, with boat on the water in forward gear under normal loading conditions, should fall within the range that is recommended by the engine manufacturer and not exceed the recommended maximum. This is important in determining a suitable propeller pitch. When in doubt, dealer assistance is suggested. here
