Trailering a hunting boat can put you in some unusual towing situations.
Even if you leave bearing service to a mechanic, you should still give them a visual inspection and a shot of grease a couple times a season or every few thousand miles. But different manufacturers have different specifications, and tire size has an effect on bearing wear (small tires spin more quickly than large ones, when traveling down the road at the same speed). So your best bet is to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. [links]

First hook up the trailer to the truck. Next hook up the plugs weather it is a 4 or 5 prong. Now get a Fluke not the test light and measure continuity between the truck and the trailer. Also check where you 4 or 5 prong ground wire hooks onto the trailer and make sure it has a good ground connection. here
If it's a tilt trailer they can loose ground to the rear half of the trailer, a seperate ground wire or ground strap will remedy.
Re: Why won't my trailer ground. here
The circuit between the truck and trailer needs to be grounded. The battery is grounded to the truck, so to complete the circuit, the trailer needs to either be hitched to the truck or grounded through the plug to the truck. more

Have done this a few times and works great.
I then make a the same "saw horse" for the front and pull the pontoon the rest of the way off.
I then drive slowly forward with and wait till there is about 1 foot of toon left on the bunks. [links]
To get it back on I just use the winch and crank her back on.
Depending how heavy toon is you might have to use a second vehicle behind the toon for an achor.
Then I lift the tounge of the trailer back up and hook it onto the tow vehicle. [links]
